My older mare has been marbled for years, and it seems to work for her. She was having frequent, hard heats and basically acting slutty. Since having the marble inserted, she doesn't seem to cycle. I had it done at the vet school, where they profess a 75% success rate. (UT Knoxville)

Years ago I had a arabian mare that at the time was 22 and short cycled. She was impossible to live it from January through March. I asked my vet about the marble and he said something about she might get cancer...I told him she is 22! Not like she is young and has her whole life ahead of her. Besides I didn't care for her anyway...I was willing to take the risk. He never would do it. Nice to know it does work but since that mare I have always had geldings..)

A friend of mine had a mare she rode for years that would be in heat all the time. So she tried the marble on the mare. Unfortunately, it didn't make a big difference.
While recently horse shopping, I happened across a mare that had been neutered by removing the ovaries vaginally. The seller stated that it was far cheaper than surgery. I suppose it might have been worth the money if the mare is a really otherwise good riding horse.
