I realize it the depends on each individual circumstance--but there has to be a average answer. I would like to know what the longest trailer can be used in primitave camp grounds without going too long. I lost my trailer in the spring tornado and need to replace it. My thoughts are a 24' on the floor gooseneck (3 horse slant, 10' lq), and Colorado will be where I plan to go.  Any thoughts??   Thanks

We have a 3 horse slant with a 12 foot short wall, total length is 26', we do almost exclusively primitive camping and have had no problems with the length. If you camp much where the weather can be iffy and you need to be inside a lot, the extra couple feet inside really makes a difference.

I think you could probably get a 24' trailer in wherever you would want to go. We have a 27' trailer, down from a 28' trailer :)    We haven't had a ton of problems but I could get a 24' trailer in a lot more places. We have a 3H w/ 12' LQ and slide. We love the extra room but tend to spend a fair amount of time on the road when we go. Our 28' trailer was a 4H w/ 10ft LQ and I swear it pulled like a much longer trailer. We stayed in it for nearly a month. The beauty of it though, is that we traveled with friends who had a large motor home!

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your trailer and I hope you can replace it with something just as good, if not better. Good luck in your search!

I have a 25' on the floor, 10' lq, 3 horse and haven't had any problems yet getting in places.  I'd love to have more room but this trailer is so easy to pull and manuver I don't want a longer one.

We have a 42 ft trailer with 34 ft on the floor. Last year we primitive camped at 30 Mile and Cunningham Gulch in CO. We have also pulled it to WY. We try to do primitive camping out west every year. We do a lot of research before we go to make sure we can get the trailer in. We not only have to worry about campgrounds but a lot of the roads going into them.

Thanks for the replys I feel that I am at least looking in the right direction. I shouldn't have too much trouble finding one better as my old one wasn't the best. Wouldn't you think FEMA should have bought my mule a trailer, some shoes, and a blanket? Thanks again!

I have a 43ft long, 35 on the floor LQ trailer. I pull it pretty much anywhere without any worries. I travel to the Black Hills and have had no problems. But when making reservations whether for primitive or not I always make sure my rig will fit into thier camp area..

Happy Trails.
