We are looking for a place to camp & ride in the Smoky Mountains for about a week. Any suggestions for the best place to go. We have a 42 ft trailer so we need a place that it will fit. Would like to be able to ride from camp, but we will have a trailer that can use to trailer out if we needed to also. Just don't want to have to trailer out every day. Also what is the weather like around the end of June? Is it really hot and humid?

I went to this horsecamp for the fourth of July a couple of years ago and the weather was perfect. The campground is small but the host (Mr. James Clark) knows all of the trails in the area and he is a super nice fella! The creek that runs behind the camp is perfect for tubing as well.

I, too, was going to suggest Orchard Cove but when I went to open their website it is no longer running.  I hope they haven't closed.

I have been to Deep Creek more than once and love it. Not fancy but James is the best and the trails are wonderful. You can ride to the trail head but it's just over a mile. He has stock trailers you can use to get you to the trail heads. Nothing is far away. I have also stayed on the TN side at Gilbertson's Lazy Horse Retreat www.lazyhorseretreat.com . Melody is a wonderful hostess and also has a trailer that she rents for a nominal fee so you can visit the trail heads in the park. It is well worth your time and effort to trailer to these in either place. Melody's place is about 2 or 3 miles down the road from Orchard Cove. We didn't stay at Orchard Cove because they did not allow stallions and our friends have a stallion. I love the Smokies and if you stay on the TN side be sure to trailer into the Cade's Cove area and ride. You won't be sorry that you did. We actually stayed on the TN side of the park, then trailered to the NC side and rode the last time we were up there. It's a challenging pull through the park. The worst part was actually just outside the park when we left TN. Skinny, curvy road with only a guard rail and a drop off...not for the faint of heart.
