I want to install fans above the horses in my 2-horse trailer. I'm looking for advice/help on how to do this. How do most people do the wiring? Do the fans connect to the truck when you plug the trailer into the truck? Thanks!!Deirdre MarrDallas, Texas

Make sure your horses are used to the sound of the fans before you put the horses in the trailer and turn on the fans. I knew someone who bought a new trailer and had head fans installed, the first time the horses were in the trailer and the fans were turned on.... all hell broke loose. The horses thought the fans were huge flys trying to eat them. The horses were scraped up, but the trailer took the brunt of it.

Good point! Thanks for that advice. My horses have fans on their stalls, I wonder if they make the same sound?

I had fans in my first two trailers and I only had one horse kinda jump when I turned them on.  they don't make a lot of noise, but it is a confined area.  turn the fans on and let the horses look into the trailer, turn them off, etc so they get used to the difference.

I can't help with the actual installation as I paid for someone to install them.  But I found them very handy, especially if you're stuck in traffic, etc  My current trailer doesn't have them, but I will probably get them installed.

I installed 4 fans in my trailer. 1st I added up the total amps of all 4 fans (don't recall this number) and purchased the correct size wire and fuse. My converter was in the bathroom above the closet, so I ran the wires from the converter to the back of the horse area in the track up against the ceiling. I installed wire loom over the wires to prevent it from shorting out. I mounted the fans with tek screws making sure that I hit a solid mounting beam. I also mounted the switches by the rear door. This was a very easy installation and my horses love it. Before loading my horses for the 1st times after the fans were installed, I just turned all the on and then asked my horses to go into the trailer, no problems.

Mine just run off the 12 volt wiring that was running just under the roofline of the trailer for the lighting. The trailer shop I took it to just tapped into that wire I think.

We have added fans for customers in trailers; and we usually do a battery/battery box mounted at the front of the trailer (non LQ's).  This way you are not relying on your truck only to power those fans.  If you stop while traveling for fuel or to eat; you can have your fans runiing off the trailer mounted battery(s).
