Hello, I just purchased a dual tandem 8 horse trailer. It is Great. The trailer is registered as farm use. Do I need a CDL to pull this trailer? The trailer weighs about 7000lbs and my truck is a 450 diesel at 15000lbs. Does anyone know if the 26,001 rule applies to farm use? Thank You, Lorena

You're fine if your truck has farm plates and you aren't more than 150 miles from home. If you're farther than that from home or truck doesn't have farm plates you'll need to have some sort of CDL most likely. I'm going to guess a class B...... but you might need a class A.

I am curious what a class B is in TX. I have a class B in TN and it is for driving a bus. It is considered a CDL license and has the endorsement for airbrakes as well.

B is GVWR of 26,001+, trailer may not exceed 10,000 GVWR, or any vehicle designed to transport 24 or more passengers including driver. If I remember right you can have either the class A or B with or without air brake endorsement (you have to test in a vehicle with air brakes to get it).
Class A is any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight raring of 26,001 pounds or more, provided the gross vehicle weight rating of the vehicle or vehicles towed exceeds 10,000 pounds. (that's word for word out of the Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook.)
