I have an older trailer that was rewired by its previous owner, to what looks like an RV plug, flat pole with 6 flats (female) and nobby black thing in the middle. Is this considered a 6 or a 7 ?

Next problem, I have a 2000 GMC Sierra thats wired with a 4 flat (female.

Is possible to find an adaptor 4-6 or 7 with the correct male/female configurations?

Even if you find a connector from a 4 flat to either a 6 or 7 round, you won't have any trailer brakes until you have a 6 or 7 round coming from your truck.

You will also have to have a brake controller installed in your truck.

Sounds like you have a 7.  There are many adaptors on the market.  I would bet you could find one fairly easy.  There is a company that advertises on this site that is a parts supply site that would have them.  I looked around to see if I could find a link and did not have any luck.  Also, on the main home page to this site is a section at the very bottom on trailer wiring.  You might want to just cut off this connection and buy a new end and rewire it to the plug you need for your truck.  Just a thought.

Here's the link to an adaptor that I think you are talking about needing.  This is from the company that advertises on here:

Hello welcome to the forum.

This is your first problem.  As BigT said. you won't have brakes.  Unless you have a trailer with surge brakes...Get a brake controller.  Then wire the truck for a connector for the trailer.

The chances are GOOD that the 4 pin is already reduced from 7.
The easiest/best solution is probably to go back to the harness where it is still 7 pins - just in front of the rear bumper. The various Hoppy adapters splice right into the rear harness there.
