A month ago I would have called magnet therapy a bunch of cash sucking hooey...

Thanks to a MRI image of my arm, I've a more open mind about it.  During the MRI process, you're in a very intense magnetic field.  I could feel the field!

Now, the question is: does that dinky magnet do anything ??

I as many others had doubts about using magnets on my horse. Untill I watched Star who was 22 when she got hurt heal up in about 2/3's the time I was told and saw how she acted like a much younger self. My vet even was suprised how well they worked and now recomends them on many things from sprangs to bowed tendons. The type I used was Nikken and then attached them to wraps and used them. They worked great I hope this helps. Good luck!

My husband's appy bowed a tendon when he was 26 (He's now 32). I put a Nikken magnet in his leg wraps each day, alternating the side it was on. I also ran water on his leg, kept him sedentary, eventually leading to small walks, etc. I asked my vet and farrier if they'd had any experience with the magnets. Neither had, but both said they couldn't "hurt"...not exactly an endorsement. The horse healed amazingly fast and has no residual swelling from his bow. My farrier has even recommended to several clients to use the magnets since then. That's been my experience. However, I've read a few research articles since then that say there is no proven effect from the magnets. Hmmmm. I guess I'd use magnets again anyway.

Thanks everyone for your input, I'm ordering some tendons wraps tomorrow, like the vet said it can't hurt. Thanks again everyone.

Be sure to get your vet's advice on the use of the wraps.  Depending on what they are made of and how tight they are wrapped, there are limits to how long you can leave them on.  This is regardless of the magnets.

Let us know how your mare does.

I've used magnets for lameness issues before, not sure if they helped or not, but can't hurt!
