We are two and half hours south of Columbia. We have good friends two and half hours north of Columbia. MO has some great riding. Anywhere from an hour to 4 hours from Columbia. Wish you well with your property search. We always love to meet new horse people so let us know if you move into the area and maybe we can meet up.

There are lots and lots of reasonably priced properties, with acreage, all over the state. The better buys per acre are in the southern half of the state, but away from Branson or Lake of the Ozarks. Properties close to Springfield is quite a bit higher. Properties close to Columbia and St Louis will also be a bit higher.
Around the Minith area a lot of wooded acreages, also good prospects south of Piedmont. The better buys are not listed with the realtors, need to pick up some local papers, and just go drive an area of interest.
There's a 600 acre farm about 20 miles south of Farmington, near Audobon Trail Last I heard they were asking $375.00/acre for it. Now it is really in the boonies, 20 plus miles to the nearest grocery store. But it has a very nice 3 story, fairly new home, & several barns.
