Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for a 2 horse straight-load that I could tow w/ my 2003 Toyota Tacoma. I have the V-6 w/ tow package and manual tranny. I know this is not the ideal tow vehicle but I really can't afford a new veh now and really like the Taco. Also, I would likely be towing 1-2 times a month at the most and not for too far (prob under 1 hr), but I do live in western CO so mountains are a given anywhere I go.

I have a Brenderup and love it.  It could easily be towed with your vehicle.

Well you could try this. LOL Yeah I stole it from the 'just when you thought you'd seen everything thread.'

I'd second the Brenderup - especially if you could find a deal on a used one. They aren't inexpensive, but it does seem to be about the only trailer designed for a tow vehicle like yours.

Look at the used Merhows, I have had 2 and loved them both (in fact I have one now). Both were 2 horse, BP, strait loads with NO dressing room and both weighed 1950 lbs. empty.

You can find used Merhows much more easily then used Brenderups and the Merhows are a lot cheaper (I got my last one for $3500.00).

I've owned 2 Brenderups as well and for the $$$ the Merhows get my vote! There isn't enough of a difference to warrant the extra $$ unless you have 17hh horses (my Merhow is 7' tall) and I know the Brenderups can haul much bigger horses.

Good Luck! Whatever you get you will feel the strain on your V6 when towing.

You might look for a CM trailer, made in OK, which is closer to you than others. They make a great 2 horse straight load with mangers and a tack area below the mangers. I bought one years ago, sold it to buy a bigger LQ trailer - wish I still had it. You should be able to find some used ones around here (OK). Excellent built trailers.
