Has anyone ever cut out the welded clothes bar from the ceiling of their dressing room? I want to remove it to finish the ceiling and a hack saw barely touches the weld. Is the weld by any chance stainless steel? Thanks.

Most Stainless Steel is not magnetic, if you put a magnet on the clothes pole and it sticks, is is steel, doesn't stick it is SS.I have had great success cutting steel with a 4 1/2" angle grinder using thin metal cutting disc.

If the angle grinder won't work or fit, a reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade will do the trick. I've cut 2" solid bar stock with little difficulty, whilst using this combination.

I tried the r. saw and it doesn't go through the weld very well. Is a cordless saw as powerful as a saw with a power cord? I don't hae a grinder wheel so I'll give the saw another try. Thank you for the information on the HW heater also you guys are great! Still working on insulating but have to get rid of that darn clothes hanger.

No it is not. A corded saw can have a longer stroke, and a much more powerful motor. Both will lessen the time a cut will take. It is also not limited in its usage by time. The quality of the blade, will have the most effect, about how well the saw will cut through stainless. A cheap blade cutting metal is worthless and a waste of time. Purchase the best and your efforts will be rewarded.

Gard is correct... Be sure your blade is a metal cutting blade. A general purpose or wood cutting blade is quickly dulled. Then it won't cut anymore. The blade has to be harder than the material being cut. The weld bead is likely harder and stronger than the trailer metal.
