I am looking at a 1993 4-Star trailer. I thought that they were all-aluminum trailers, but when I looked underneath it the main beams that travel from the front to the back of the trailer, one on each side, has rust. These are the beams that the aluminum I-beams which support the floor are attached to. This is NOT oxidized aluminum, but orange iron oxide. Is this normal for a '93 4-Star?
Also, should I jack up the trailer and take a wire wheel to these beams and the axles and then paint or undercoat them, or just leave it alone? It is mostly surface rust under paint.

My guess is that the beams you are seeing are for the axle sub-frame...which is then bolted to the aluminum structure. But without seeing it, I could be wrong.

Funny you should mention this. We have a 2002 4Star 2 horse slant with dressing room that is mustly smelling. It has a small sliding window on the door but the floor seems to get damp somehow. In a hard downpour I have looked around inside to see any rainwater. Nothing leaking from the roof or sides that I can see. Anyways I got down and looked underneath it and there was rust! I was surprised because I thought they were all aluminum also. The rust seems to be up under the dressing area by the door.
jkhorseman, I will be interested in what you find out. I see you are from PA. We traveled to Kittanning, PA to a 4-Star dealer to order our LQ trailer, they were very nice and helpful. If you are close by them, I will pm you their name.

I looked under my trailer and the only steel I found was the axle subframe.
