After much research, deliberation, consulting this forum, looking, looking, looking, hauling in different trailers, etc.  I just bought a 2010 Lakota Charger with 7 ft. LQ.  It is a 2H slant which you won't even find in the floorplans on Lakota website.  It was ordered and made for Dixie Horse and Mule Trailers and I can't wait to get it.  They are delivering it free of charge to me in NC.  I have recently been horsecamping and am hooked, riding extreme trails like Mt. Rogers, etc. and having a blast.  I have a trusty little strawberry roan named Huckleberry and we are having so much fun.  I have worked all my life to do stuff like this and my non-riding hubby is just as excited to be able to throw in and go all these places and trout fish!!  Whoohooo.  I will be hauling with a 2000 Dodge 2500 Dielsel Ram, so I think I am okay.  Great forum to be able to take advantage of.  I will keep you posted as to what I think of the Lakota, but so far, the people are great to deal with.  Am a bit concerned about the Karrier tires on it, load D, 8 ply...am a big Michelin girl myself and sure wish they would start making 16 inch trailer tires!!  Oh well, you think there is a lot out there about trailers?? The tire reviews are just all depressing.  Seems that you always hear all the negative stuff. Hopefully, I will post positive stuff.  I also think the Lakota charger logo is a big overkill and am looking into having it removed---if I can do so without damaging skin.  Stay tuned.

They do make them. I have Michelin trailer tires on both of my trailers.

Why don't you see, if for an additional price, you can upgrade your tires at the dealership before you take delivery? Since your tires are new, they have a trade in value, and the dealer can sell them as "take offs".

Many people like their Lakota's. You have an excellent dealer standing behind your purchase. You're on your way to a rewarding ownership.

Welcome to HTW!!

If you're looking a Michelin 16" trailer tire in a load range "E", look no further... Michelin XPS Rib They don't build a load range "D", but you could substitute a 215/85-16 or the 225/75-16 to get a lighter 2680# load rating.

Thank you all so much.  I have looked into the Michelins and read some great reviews.  I will try to see what I can work out with the dealer.  Most of the reviews seem to have been written by truckers hauling loads and they are talking about some incredible mileage.

You can also consider any of the 16" LT "E" truck tires made by several good manufacturers. They would be a substantial upgrade from the OEMs, and because it is a very competitive market, the tires are more reasonably priced.

Most trailer tires will run out of age before they wear out of thread. So unless you drive an unusually high number of miles per year, paying for an extreme high mileage tire at a premium, may not offer the best return of your expenditure.

If properly maintained, the LT truck tires have a typical thread wear in excess of 50 K miles. Many people do not exceed this figure in the six year life of a tire.

Many forum members and I run after market truck tires on their trailers. We have no speed limitation restrictions as specified by the trailer tire manufacturers, and enjoy safe, reliable and trouble free trips. Going from a "D" to "E" range will greatly reduce the load factor on the tires' capabilities and ensure their longevity.
