Does anyone have info. on camping/riding at Uwharrie campground in NC?  a friend and I are thinking about taking a trip there this summer.  we can't find anything saying where to keep the horses.   Can you keep them at the trailer or do they have stalls?  I'd rather use portable corrals or hi ties.  thanks!

Hey Acy. Uwharrie is one of my favorite places to go. Make sure your horses are in pretty good shape and shod at the very least on the fronts (I'd recommend all the way around). I've stayed at two places in Uwharrie: 4B Farm and Cane Brake Campground. 4B is a family run place with barn stalls, covered corrals, uncovered corrals, and I think they'll let you tie out if you wanted. The bath house is nice and they have a tack shop in case you forgot something. I know there are electric hook ups and I forget if there is water. They have a website http://www.fourbfarm.com/ .

Canebrake is a public equestrian campground. They have nice (primitive) sites that are spaced out, most have shady trees, and more private than the line up at 4B but you have to line tie or bring your own stalls. There is water centrally located for the horses (two wash stalls) or filling up your water tank but I don't know about drinking it. There are bath houses but we didn't use them (shower in trailer was more convenient). Canebrake has direct access to the trails and trail maps can be found at the entrance to the grounds. 4B is about a 30 minute ride to the main trails. If you want to look up Cane Brake, you can google it and it'll come right up.

If you have any other questions, I'll try to help out.

Funny we go to VA and you come down here. Watch the weather here in the summer. It gets hot at Uwharrie. 4 B is great.

thanks for the info!  Canebrake does sound nice.  does it get full in the summer?  I'm wondering how far ahead we'd have to make reservations.  I'm not worried about the heat since we lived and conditioned the horses in S. GA and FL for years...   At first we were thinking about going to N. GA but Uwharrie is half the distance and that would save a lot of fuel $$.
