I have a 3-horse slant-load Exiss purchased in 1999 that has developed a roof leak.  I think the water is getting in through one or more seams in the roof that had been caulked but the caulking is now cracked and peeling.  Anybody know how to permanently fix the leak(s).  I have insulated inside the dressing room and the leakage is damaging the paneling.

Thanks,

Bob

Hello Bob .. Welcome to the forum.

Only death and rising taxes are permanent.

I had a leaking seam.  I used a wire brush in a side grinder to remove the old caulk.  Then I used the same caulk Sundowner used.  It is a polyurethane type material.  Very tough ( I had to take the old stuff off) and flexible.  I haven't had any leaks in 2 years.

The caulk used is a moisture cured polyurethane.  Manufactured by Sika Corp.

It's funny I just got off the phone with an Exiss dealer about my trailer roof mainentance. While I don't have any roof leak issues I asked him about keeping it that way and he suggested a foil tape that is applied to the seams and then siliconed around its edges. This stuff seems to be the way to go and has had great success with it on the Exiss trailers roofs. An Exiss dealer will have this stuff available and can ship it to you but has to be applied with a special heat torch blower of some sort. If you can get a dealer to do it for you might be the way to go.

I had to recaulk a smalll spot or two on my roof last summer. I think  I got some stuff made for RV's. Anyway, we removed the old stuff and just slapped the new gook on.

My trailer has the foil tape/caulking on it, used as a precaution after being caught in a hail storm. I've never had a leak one, so have to say it must work.
