We took our friend Wendy on her first pack trip this past week. We had a great time, got rained on the first day but were real fortunate with the weather the rest of the time. This was in the upper Pine River, north east of Durango, Colorado in the Weminuche Wilderness. Access was via the Poison Park trail north of Pagosa Springs.

Open spaces with tons of meadows and mountains surrounding you! My favorite things! Beautiful!

Thanks for sharing the great pictures. I was in the high country outside of Gunnison, Co. on a horse trip June 14. Went through more snow drifts that I ever imagined in mid june!

What kind of pack saddle is that on the palomino?  I'd love to go packing, but the husband has to have AC.

Yo don't need A/C at 10,000 feet.  Notice all the coats on those in the pictures.

The palomino has a decker pack saddle. Deckers use those metal bars instead of the Wood Cross Bucks.
