Could anyone tell me what year did Sundowner start putting steel frames in their trailers? I am looking at a 99 Sundowner Seista and I am not sure if the trailer is all aluminum or steel/aluminum.

It seems that every aluminum trailer will have some steel in the frame, especially under the gooseneck and where the axles connect to the frame. Sundowner has made some composite trailers steel covered by aluminum sheeting. A simple magnet thest will tell you if you have a composite trailer.

Thanks for your replys!! Both times I have gone to look at this trailer I have forgotten to take my magnet. But I have had some guidance in this matter by a very knowledgable person. Even though this is a purchase from an individual, Don at Dixie Horse and Mule has answered all my questions reguarding this model of trailer, even though it is not a sale he will in anyway profit from he took the time to help me. What a great guy!!

What is the model number of the trailer? Sundowner has had a steel frame/aluminum skin trailer line for many years. They've also had the aluminum frame trailer for many years. Both these trailers have coexisted for quite some time now.
If you can find the model number of the trailer: 727 - Steel Frame 720 - Aluminum Frame 725 - Aluminum Frame Lined and Insulated
Also, the last 2 letters in the VIN number should tell you as well. ZA is steel, LA is aluminum.
EDIT: Looks like I was a bit late in my reply. I'll leave the information up as it could help someone else.
