We have a 2011 HD Silverado 2500 4x4 with the gas vortec engine (extended cab with all towing upgrades); how much weight (gooseneck trailer) would you feel comfortable pulling (and stopping) with it? By the way, the truck specs from Chevy say 14,000 lbs with a gooseneck. thank you for your opinions!

If the specs say 14,000, Then you should be fine with that load.  My 4H Logan weighs in at 13,000 lbs when loaded. So I would think most 4H Non-LQ trailers would be fine with that truck.  You'll have to look at the weights on any LQ trailers as they will start pushing the 14k to 16k load limit.

The gas engine will sound busier when it has to work than the diesel engines.  it will have to run at higher RPMS to get the needed horsepower to accellerate and climb grades. But that doesn't mean it's not capable of the job.

14400-14700# with the 4.10 axle ratio, 9900-10200# with the 3.73 gears.... What axle ratio do you have??

I got a 2010 2500HD 4x4 with the 6.0 gas, 6 speed auto and 3.73 gears and I wouldn't want any more than the 9900# as stated, specially in the mountains.... I imagine it would handle it, kinda, OK, but you would have to keep that small block wound up pretty tight!!

Thank you. I'll have to check to see what gears we have. We won't be pulling in any mountains. We trailer for horse shows & orienteering rides within 1-2 hours of our place in Western WI.

We are looking at a lighter living quarters like Bison makes. If I remember correctly they are about 7500 lbs empty.

14000K might be the max GN, but you also have to consider your GVCWR (Truck+trailer) and that your pin weight doesn't exceed the payload.....all of this in order to be legal. The truck will probably handle more, but you don't want to get in a crash and be over the limits.....
