They want to do an oil analysis to see if you have coolant in the oil. For the $20 it costs, it is a good starting point, and will affect the recommendation for driving it or parking it until fixed.

coolant staying clean?  If yes, i would say stuck egr  everyone has been having hell with thoose egr valves

if the coolant is getting dirty a headgasket, but the coolant can stay clean with a blown headgasket

In my experiences the oil analsys will not tell you if the egr is goofed but it could tell you about a blown HG, but for the cost of it you can not go wrong.  I get them on my trucks and change oil according to them.

or the egr cooler is leaking into the exhaust, sometimes the coolant will crystalize in the exhaust when it does that

If the valve were stuck wouldnt it alert a censor and throw a code and warning light on the dash?  I just hope I caught it ealry enough that is's minor.

the egr setting codes, not always.  and if its the cooler leaking not usually.

How much coolant is it using/loosing also how many miles are on it?  is it still running correctly?  I have had a water pump leak on a truck with the IH 466E in it that was very slight and would only do it hot and it was evaporating the coolant so you could not see it leak, I put uv dye in the coolant and finally found it.
