Hi all..

We went Wednesday to go get a load of hay.. When we went to the barn to hook up, I saw that my plug (which I had stupidly left uncovered) was caked with dirt that had been blown by and stuck to/absorbed the dielectric grease around the plug.. We knocked it off/out and sprayed WD 40 in the plug sockets.. It looked as if we got it pretty clean.. Both turn signals worked.. But, as we were going home with our hay, it was apparent that our trailer brakes were not working.. I have a brake box controller (prodigy, I think) which indicated (LCD) that it was connected, but did not show any numbers as it does when braking.. I turned the "tuning" wheel both ways with no effect whatsoever.. Any ideas as to what we should do next?

If it was me I would take your plug off and give it a good cleaning, I'm sure it has rust on the prongs or something like that. Because I'm assuming they worked when you put it up so no reason it should be anything else than your plug.

take it completely off?   I have never messed with any wiring.. I'm guessing this is fairly simple?   I also checked and my brake box controller is a Prius..

It's only few wires. But cleaning the prongs making sure nothing is on them and just making sure none of the wires came loose on the inside. Just right down where each wire went so when putting it back together you know where to put what.

Check the plug on the tow vehicle and make sure you have power to all the terminals. If you do then cut the plug off and install a new one. It's cheap and easy.
