Thinking about going to Big Bend in March. Has anyone been there and do you have any recommendations of where to stay? Haven't been that direction usually go north. Also will need an overnight place in Texas have any ideas? We will be coming from Southeast Kansas.

Hey... if you are going south from southeast Kansas, you might overnight at Parry Haynes Ranch and ride there a bit to stretch your horses out. There are some pretty cool places to camp and ride in Texas... like Palo Duro Canyon and Caprock Canyon State Park ( great camp with pens at each site),  both are just south of Amarillo... Once you get out there, you want to keep on going! Look at your maps, then go to Horse and Mule Trail website for lots of info on camps and trails... Lucky you!

Big Bend is a spectacular part of the world, but make sure you take your thinking cap along with you.  Mexican drug runners have been known to cause problems in the park and area ranchers are making significant adjustments to deal with the issue.  A planned ride with many riders shouldn't encounter trouble, but I would be wary of riding alone.
