I have a 2002 Gmc 1500 Sierra. It does not have the tow package. However I will be pulling a horse trailer and need to add wiring for the trailer brakes. I will be purchasing a Prodigy brake controller. Has anyone else out there been in this same situation and had to go through adding the wiring for the vehicle and any tips from anyone?
check out those links, should have all the parts you need. i belive ive even seen some of that stuff at wally world.
it will take some time, planning the wire routing will be the kicker. ive spent a lot of time laying on the ground, scooting along under the vehicle picking the best spots. make sure you get a good ground to the frame for the harness, and run a ground wire directly to the negative post on the battery for the brake controller (BTW youll like the prodigy). good luck.

You might want to check out the link below. Scroll down to the section "Replacing OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness" and you will find one listed for your truck, among others. Even though your truck apparently doesn't have the OEM harness, this kit will fit into the base electrical harness and you have converted to the tow package. http://www.hitches-forless.com/electrical/wiring_harnesses.htm Click on the Brake Control line along the left side and scroll down and you will find a harness with everything you need to wire up your controlller. Hope this is some help. Remember, this is supposed to be fun.

Hi and welcome.
I don't know if your truck has some latent wiring to which the trailer/tow package would be attached or not - it is likely.
Here is the upfitter (gmuplifter) link where most of that stuff can be found https://www.gmuplifter.com for some odd reason it doesn't seem to be working tonight. Odd, I only just noticed that it is an https - maybe I can only come to it from a login ? I forget, but will post again if/when I rediscover how to get in there (likely).
There is a schematic for the WHOLE vehicle on that site, I have a copy on my hard drive, it isn't restricted circulation so I can mail it to you if necessary - about 4 meg IIRC.
You can probably pick up the tail turn and stop lines with the plug together molded things from the Mall, the electric brake has to be easy to find - DO NOT JUST USE THE STOP LIGHT WIRE !!! {kidding, but some folk might try it}.
