I am sorry; did not intend to begin an argument. The problem comes down to semantics sometimes; as in the definitions of domicile and residency. The various states have different time frames for changing tags, licenses and so forth. I remember the days when people went to Nevada (and other places too) in order to get a fairly quick divorce. Take a vacation for 6 weeks and get divorced. No real connection to Nevada but the divorce was valid (distribution of property was another matter). So perhaps we should agree to disagree on the subject of Maine trailer tags.

No argument...I was just stating a possible scenario, just because I have a low opinion of politicians...

I have found that if they become aware of a revenue source that they currently aren't tapping, they tend to pass laws to access it...

When people went to NV, they normally did not get jobs while they were there, they were spending there soon to be ex's money...

Here is a response I got from Maine...

Thank you for contacting the Secretary of State's office.  Yes, Maine does register non-resident trailers for non-commercial use.  If this is something you are interested in, please contact the Registrations Unit directly at (207) 624-9000 Ext. 52151.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Therese Cahill Low
Director of Constituent Services

Before you do this, it would be best to check the laws in your home state.  In Minnesota, if you are a resident you are required to register your vehicles in MN.  Depending on the amount you would be not paying to the state of MN, it could result in some substantial charges.  It is called attempting to evade taxes, and as we all know, anytime taxes are involved things get serious in a hurry.  So dont just take the word of a neighbor or friend as I'm sure they arent going to pay any fines for you.  It may be legal in some states, just not all of them.
