My husband and I are diving headfirst into our first real LQ. What regular maintenance must be performed to keep everything running smoothly? What must be done to winterize it? Is it expensive to maintain a LQ?Hubby was asking me these question and I didn;t know what to tell him!

Some of the things that come to mind with regular maintenance is checking the filter on the air conditioner.  You will also want to make sure the holding tanks are cleaned after each use to prevent buildup.  Most trailers can be winterized in about 30 minutes.  This includes draining the fresh water holding tank.  Some people will put the antifreeze directly in this tank and then run it through the system.  I drain the tank and the lines and then hook up a separate line to pull the antifreeze through the system.  You will need to bypass the hot water heater to prevent pulling the antifreeze through it.  Then, go to each water outlet and turn on the cold and hot lines separately till the antifreeze comes through.  I always take what is left over and pour it down the drains to fill the traps.  Also, if your hot water heater has a anode in it, you will want to check it from time to time to see if it needs to be replaced.  You can winterize most trailers with two gallons of antifreeze.  Honestly, the cost is not that high when you consider the convenience of having the LQ.

If you live in a humid climate it's a good idea to run the air conditioner once a week or so to make sure everything is dried out to prevent mold and mildew, even in cold months after you use it for a weekend if the weather is damp (I got mildew because the air got pretty humid in the LQ and then was stored for a couple weeks once). Also good to switch the fridge to gas every once in a while if you leave it running while the trailer is sitting for a long time, just a few minutes to make sure the burner still lights and circulates everything (gas is supposed to circulate the coolant better than the electric element does).
