Towing info: I have a 2500 HD 4x4 and looking at a 3 horse 12' SW the trailer gvwr is 16800, ship wt is 8720, hitch is 2700, gawr is 14000. I just don't want to over work my pickup. They say to save 15 -20% of your towing capacity.

Welcome to the forum .. Your truck will pull the trailer.  The problem you will have is carrying the hitch weight.  The BASE truck model payload is about 3600 pounds.  passengers and their stuff will put your truck at its max payload very quickly.  I would reconsider the size of trailer.

We have a 3 horse 11' SW LQ that we pull with an F350 dually.  First thing I did was load it up with two horses, tack, and full tanks of water & diesel and head to the nearest CAT scale to see what I was pulling for weight.  Here are the numbers:  steer axle 4,720#, drive axle 6,040#, and trailer axle 9,460#.  All weights, including the combined weight, are well under the max towing capacity for our truck.  Based on my findings off this forum I chose to go with a heavier DRW truck and have never regretted it for use with a trailer this size.
