My vehicles towing capacity is 5,000 lbs. I am purchasing a 2 horse trailer. This might be a stupid question but does the towing capacity mean thats what the vehicle with tow or does it mean you have to include the vehicles weight into the 5,000 lbs.
Thanks, just trying to see if I can pick the trailer up with my vehicle or if I have to loan a truck.

It means your vehicle can pull a maximum of 5K#. That is the total weight of the trailer, horses and tack combined. Your vehicle will also have a maximum tongue weight, of which the hitch is capable of supporting. This will be a different and lower figure, spelled out in your owner's manual.

as other have said 5K is the max your vehicle can tow by law. You most likely don't want to tow close to the max, either way you are probably limiting yourself to a trailer weight of around 2000-2500lbs if you are transporting 2 horses and tack (2500lbs or so)
