Subject: Connecting new batteries

I am installing new batteries. For the first battery there is one ground, 2 wires and a jump wire to the other battery for the positves. For the second battery there is no ground wire and 2 wires plus the jumper. I connected the positves but when I go to connect the ground it sparks. What am I doing wrong..please help

I'm with Paul, I think you may have had a pair of 6V batteries connected in series to making the 12V. So we can help you, would you post a few pictures.
