I am purchasing a new trailer and I am having an Onan generator put on.  I am having the generator put on the hayrack and I have the option to put it in a box on the hayrack.  What is the advantage/disadvantage of putting it in the box since it already has a casing around it?

It will look nice, and help it be even more quiet, and protect it from hail etc...

Putting the gen. in a box will difinately quite it down, but remember that it requires to be air cooled, so proper ventilation is very important.  I have a honda 4500 watt on my hayrack, and noise is really not a factor.  I did have to reinforce the rack legs, as the vibration and weight of gen. fatiqued the alluminum welds. also ensure you rubber mount the legs of the gen set. Enjoy you new rig...
