Would it be a bad idea to buy a horse trailer that previously had a tree fall on the roof? It is about the only one with the features I need that I can actually afford. The repairs that were done don't look great, but it's not leaking and everything seems sturdy. Cosmetically, I don't care what it looks like but I do want it to be safe for my horses.

We can't give you an answer without visually inspecting the trailer. It all depends on the severity of the damage and how well the repairs were effected. How the repairs look cosmetically is subjective, and can vary from person to person.
How large a tree fell? Did the main truck impact the roof or only a branch? What damage was done? Were the trailer sides affected? How was it repaired? I would have the trailer inspected by a person knowledgeable in RV structures; a mechanic, fabricator or even an auto body person.
