I was wondering if anyone has camped at River Valley Campgrounds in Iowa? The camp sounds really nice, but there does not seem to be to much info on the trails? Anyone out there know about this place? Wondering if the trails are hilly how challengeing? We live in Illinois and enjoy Shawnee and Siloam Springs State park. Thanks for any info.

You won't find anything as challenging as Shawnee in Iowa. There are nice trails through some pretty woods. But, they don't compare to Shawnee. We go to both every year. Shimek and Stephens in southern Iowa are about two hours from us. When we go to Shawnee, we usually stay at Hayes Canyon. That's close to an 8 hour trip.

Siloam Springs would be more like what you'll find in southern Iowa. You'll enjoy riding there. River Valley is next to Shimek SF and accesses the same trails.

River Valley is adjacent to Shimek State Forest and you can ride all the trails at Shimek EXCEPT when they close them due to rain. (which seems to be pretty often). I think the private campground has limited number of trails. The trails at Shimek would be similar to Siloam Springs.
