I like 4 Star trailers, but not that 4 Star, Maybe if it were a straight load, with more D.R. area.
I'm not a big fan of Merhow, but that's just me. That Merhow's going to give you alot more of that extra room for tack and stuff.... Plus, you can load or unload either horse without bothering the other..... Got to wonder what the tongue weight would be with it all loaded up, time for that W.D.H. with the bars. That may be a bit heavy on the tongue/hitch for your Saab.

A few points of interest;
A) By not using a WDH with your current setup you are BEGGING for a disaster. On my Trailblazer a WDH was required for a trailer with a 400#tongue/4000# weight. I doubt the Saab is any different. Either way without the WDH to replace the weight to the front axle, and supplement the rear suspension, I am surprised you found the handling to even be close to acceptable. Due to that fact, a larger trailer that is set up PROPERLY with a WDH you may very well find to be acceptable also. There is a HUGE difference in how the rig will handle when setup in the correct manner.
B) In reference to the short tongue on the 4 star. Its not some much short, as the V nose is long. The V nose uses the wasted space on the tongue.
C) In order to use a WDH you will generally need a 36" tongue. Also, some aluminum trailers are not suitable for use with a WDH, you will need to contact the manufacturer.
This deserves repeating, GET YOURSELF A WEIGHT DISTRIBUTING HITCH BEFORE YOU HAUL AGAIN!

I thought I chime in because I have a setup similar to the poster. I haul with a Expedition (regular length) with a 2HB BP with a walk in dressing room. I use a Weight Distribution Hitch.
I haul infrequently about 500 miles per year, mainly to go the vet, trail riding and local shows. On occasion I pull on the interstate.
Is this an ideal setup? Probably not. But not interested in driving a pickup every day to work.
I think you need to evaluate how often and where you will be hauling. If I was going to purchase a full size truck I would opt for a 250 and purchase a goose neck trailer.

Having both a Suburban and a Chevy 3500, I can tell you what I use is strictly determined by what I am hauling. If I am hauling only 2 horses, I use the Suburban and the bumper pull. Having only hooked up the bumper pull to the 3500 a few times, I can tell you that the truck beats the trailer to death.
Also, the bumper pull was pulled behind my old Tahoe, and my brother's Ford 1/2 ton. Of the three, the Suburban pulls the best.
