Does anyone here have the new 6.4 Powerstroke? I'm thinking about trading trucks and want to know how they're doing. I've read on some diesel forums about them but most people on there lift them and hot rod, I'm interested in finding out how they pull the LQ's. Also everything I've looked at has been 4wd and I'm looking for a 2wd dually, if anyone has any pics of one I'd love to see one before I order. Thanks.

I think you should get several opinions from owners of drw trucks about the advantages/disadvantages of including a 4 wd option. I have seen a dually stuck on a hard road in the rain and not be able to move with the back tires spinning. I have pulled several loaded duallies out of wet show grounds. In the north east and the snow, 4wd is manditory.

I have had to use my 4wd on many occasions, and although I own a srw truck, I would not purchase any tow vehicle without the 4wd option.

Please talk to other owners before you may make an expensive mistake.

I looked at them a couple of weeks ago at the QH Congress. I was getting close to signing on the dotted line until several folks at the show told me their horror stories of putting diesel in them that was NOT the extra low sulphur by mistake that resulted in their truck shutting off going down the interstate pulling a large LQ trailer. So, I decided that since I do get off the beaten path quite often, that I would wait a while before I jumped on that bandwagon.
Also, I totally agree with Gard on getting the 4x4. I have 4WD and 2WD trucks to pull my trailers with. My 2WD gets stuck on wet pavement! Everytime it gets pulled out, I worry about damage. I hope to never own another 2WD truck that is dedicated fo hauling a horse trailer.

Hey you 08 F450 owners...any input/ problems with bed/trailer clearance that has been reported before? Also, your opinions on 350 vs 450...worth the extra (a lot) of dollars? Thanks

I just received a 2008 Ford Super Duty brochure. The F-350 GVWR is listed as 13,000 lbs. A standard gooseneck trailer normally has a two 7,000 axles, even without the normal 20% that some trailered add to the GVWR of the trailer, that's at least a 14,000 lb trailer. 13,000 and 14,000 = 27,000 lbs which is over the 26,001 lbs requirement for a CDL license, unless you have a recreational trailer. Shouldn't the manufactures bond together to exclude these non-commercial trucks from CDL. There has been post on this forum about such non-commercial rigs getting ticketed for not having a CDL.

I'm not worried about getting stuck. I've owned a 1995 and now a 2001 F350 CC Dually 2wd. If it weren't for my truck now having over 200,000 miles on it I'd be keeping it. As for the fuel, I stay on interstates mostly, and when I'm off I make sure I have plenty of fuel (you never know where you might end up). Thanks for the input, and I think I'm going to order one this coming week without seeing one.

????Urban Legend????....unless they can cite you a reference about the shutdowns because Duramax and Cummins have no reference to such events...

What if a 2007-compliant truck is mis-fueled with regular high sulfur "on-highway" fuel or runs into an emergency where the only fuel available is regular high sulfur “on highway" fuel. Will it damage the particulate filter?
Not necessarily. Tests indicate that filling the tank of a low-emitting diesel vehicle with regular diesel fuel on a rare occasion won't damage the filter system. However, this shouldn't be a habit. Use on a repeated or regular basis would do damage.

http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51772&highlight=high+sulfur+stops+new+engine&page=3

You won't have a choice in the type of fuel (low sulfur versus high sulfur). They were mandating that all over the road fuel be low sulfur by the end of 2006.

I saw a new 08 CC dually hauling the Borden "Elsie" trailer the other day....that is no small trailer...it was probably a 35 footer...he had NO issue keeping it at about 80 up and down hills....I had to get on my 05 ford to keep up with him and I wasnt towing....of course he also ran a car off the road when he almost side swiped it, so I just barely missed a really nasty collision; but nonetheless I was REALLY impressed with the trucks towing ability (or at least as much as you can be if you arent in it)

Fairly certain the law stated that all filling stations had to be using ULSD by October of last year. Many places have not updated their stickers on the pumps to reflect that they have made the switch.

And I certainly wouldn't ask the clerk behind the counter. They most likely have no idea, either. It's relatively easy to tell the difference when filling up. I have not seen LSD for over a year now.

450 vs 350. Look at the turning circle now. The F-450 beats the 350 by 2'. Seems really nice to drive because of it.

My sister bought an 08 last May. It is exactly the same make/model truck as my 2006.

Hers is much much quiter

When we pull two identical trailers, she beats me up the hills.

Mine gets better fuel mileage

A friend recently purchased an '08 450 and other than a few issues in the very beginning has not had any serious problems. I couldn't believe how much quieter it is than my 04 350. It can run, but I don't have any issues keeping up. He is hauling a Bloomer 6 horse trainer and I'm hauling an Elite 315 LQ. Usually, both are loaded.

The Ford service riders I've talked to have had few problems to fix on the 08 Super Duty compared to 2003 when the 6.0L Power Stroke first came out. This is good news. For the second series 08 Super Duty, Ford improved the 5R110 auto tranny. It has a three face torque converter lockup verses just one in the previous models. And now the standard axle ratio on F250/350 srw is 3.55. So you can choose 3.55 or 3.73. On the F350 dually you can have 3.73, 4.10 or 4.30. It's looking like Ford will have an exhaust brake in a year or two. I was in Detroit a week ago visiting with Ford at their MPG proving ground. They have tried a two speed rear axle like I use alot in the sixties and seventies in my 2-ton farm trucks. It's not a plan now, but I'll be pushing to get it considered. I'm getting hints that the next Ford PS might have yellow paint. Just got back from SEMA in Vegas. I'll have pictures up soon. Toyota was the big sponsor, and had a crew cab dually diesel with a 8.0L Hino. It's just a show truck, so don't get excited, but it looked cool.

Last I heard Ford was developing their own in-house diesel engine. There have been rumors for years that CAT was going into a pickup. Just this year everyone was SURE Toyota was going to have a CAT in their trucks... you know, even though they own Hino.

I'm not really sure why everyone salivates at the thought of a CAT engine. The C7 is the closest thing they have and it does not have the best track record. Not to mention it weighs 1200lbs by itself. A CAT would have a higher initial investment and would cost far more than the others to maintain and repair. GM contacted John Deere about supplying a diesel engine in years past before the Duramax. It fell through for exactly the same reasons; couldn't make it light enough, cost too much to begin with and maintain.

I'd much prefer Ford try to steal Cummins away from Dodge. A Ford with a Cummins would put Ford on top as the undisputed king. It won't happen, though. Dodge knows that Cummins keeps it alive.

Here's a frilly, of no consequence opinion that you can tell came from a girl.   I HATE the cheap looking chrome trim on the interior of the 08 Fords.  Heaven knows there's nothing cheap about the price.  I'm going to look for a left over 07.

Well hey Kay. Does that mean the F450 has some miles on it? Hope is served you well. Email me sometime and I'll give you a long opinion but it won't be about looks.

About Cat, my concern is seeing them up production 300k engines a year. The 4.4L diesel for the F150 is suppose to be a Land Rover. In January we should see more of what all the future diesels will be at the Detroit Auto Show. Dodge has some surprises in the 1500.

Ford did recall the early ones. They changed the timing on the regeneration of the Diesel Particulat Filter. All three brands regenerate to clean the NOX out of the DPF. Ford does it the most. It's suppose to do it at road speeds. It shoots fuel in the exhaust stroke to burn up what's in the DPF. Gets to 1100 degrees. I've been in a few Fords that regenerated and it gives it more power, smells a little and has a different sound. GM is the only one that says they can regenerate at idle. The design is to do it on the go at higher rpms with air flow cooling the exhaust.
