We have trailer w/lq but it just has sink, hot water heater, cowboy shower and a port a potty in the first stall. Someday we will have trailer that will also has stove and refrig. Right now I'm not completely sold on having a stool and shower. In one way it seems like a waste of space if you don't mind the cowboy shower and port a potty. On the other hand I supoose you go to some campground and you can't be dumping the water on the ground from your trailer. But I would like to use the space that the bathroom would take for more storage and living space. There are alot ways to look at like dealing with tanks under your trailer, some campgrounds have nice bathrooms and shower and some don't. Most of the time we just go with the horses for a weekend ride. So give me your opinions!

Fo me, it wasn't important at all. I don't camp ( perish the thought) I just show and generally at nice fairgrounds that have public facilites. I do have a sink with a water holding tank. I can heat water, pour into my sink, take a quick bath. The porta potty serves its purpose. I travel alone so room and space is not a issue. However, those who have a shower simply love them. It all depends on what you want in your rig.

We absolutely enjoy the privacy and cleanliness afforded by our own lq trailer bathrooms. Some public facilities are not fit to use. The issue of holding tanks seems overblown, ours will easily last three people for a three day weekend.

It was some time before we could afford full lq interiors, and we enjoy them with every usage. We would not want anything less now.

Ditto on what Gard said. No problems with the tanks lasting for three people and I wouldn't be without the shower and private bathroom..... a cowboy shower and port a potty is 100% better than some of the public facilities I've been too though. I do like having a refrigerator and freezer instead of coolers too.

I think alot depends on how you use your trailer. If it is mainly used for day trips it would not be as inportant as if you were staying for a few days somewhere that had no shower. I think an indoor stool is more important to women than men especially in the middle of the night. My favirite part of our new trailer was the large refrigerator. No more soggy food in the bottom of the cooler or having to go get ice or tell the kids to shut the cooler. Only use the shower on the longer trips but sure is nice when you need it after a hot and dusty ride.

To me,it is of the utmost importance.I never was much of a camper anyway, even though I love being outdoors. It's a toss up on the shower vs the pot, but,in the middle of the night,I wouldn't have any problem saying which one is the MOST important for me.

both shower and stool are wonderful..i like having the trailer cooled or heated comfortable so when you get done showering you can actually get your clothes on before you sweat or freeze to death, most the shower houses we have been in that is the case unless the temp outside is perfect..the tanks are no problem even when we do a girls wkend its not a big deal to empty the tanks when leaving..i used a porta potty for many yrs in my old trailer you still have to empty them when done for the wkend i think they are more messy than empyting  holding tanks..just my 2cents..happy trails everyone

We are weekend trail riders.  We have been to horse camps all over KY, TN, IN, IL and AL.  We have a "bucket potty" for those middle of the night and first morning bladder calls.  But out of all the places we have been, I have only run in to one bath house that did not meet my standards (which are pretty high).  Most of them are even temp controlled.

I guess it depends on what you do.  Bathrooms at show grounds...ICK.

Personally, I don't want to have to clean another shower (I have a hard enough time keeping the ones in the house clean).  And I don't want to deal with water tanks.  So, this set-up suits me just fine.

RIDE ON!

In short: Not very important.

My wife and I camp most weekends in the spring and fall and some in the summer.  We do not have living quarters in the trailer.

As far as the toilet, we have never camped where: A) it was inappropriate to find a bush or down tree, or B) there wasn't a bathroom or vault toilet nearby.  What do you do when you are out riding your horse for a whole day?  You find a tree.  Why, when you get back to camp, do you need facilities all of a sudden?

As far as the shower, we have a Zodi brand propane hot shower.  We have a shelter (my wife calls it the cabana) that we set up near our campsite and it works very well.  About 2 gallons of water will give us both a shower.

Now, on the other hand, I don't think I would be disappointed if I had the living quarters with the toilet and shower.  I probably would not use the toilet much, but my wife would.  The shower would be a little more convenient than setting up the hot shower and cabana.  But niether are a "must" for me.

I can only echo Gard. Most of my shows are at fairgrounds and the showers are often filthy. Interestingly enough, the Kansas Coliseum just did a major renovation and took all the showers out to make space for ADA compliant toilets. At a week-long show...what's a girl to do? I long for my own shower, even if it's just a camp shower. Just haven't figured out what to do about capturing the runoff yet rather than letting it run out the back.

Thanks for the feed back. More food for thought. How do some of the campgrounds handle just dumping the water on ground?

I have enjoyed both my shower and toilet. Most excellent traveling because you don't have to look for a bathroom, just pull over. A nice clean shower and toilet of your own is excellent. Your brown water tank will fill up the fastest due to the shower so you have to conserve water on a week long trip.

And if a #2 hits it is even nicer......Ahhh, my own bathroom....

What's wrong with letting it run out the back? It is legal to just dump graywater on the ground. For a shower, we're talking 1 to 2 gallons.

Some state parks with campsites won't allow gray water to be dumped on the ground.

They don't regulate the run off from your horse when it's in the trailer, so why is there a problem with a cowboy shower in the same trailer? I've been to several shows where the groundskeeper checks that all blackwater tanks are caped and has often ignored the many trailers with an open grey water valve. I would think that they would be tough on both. Never heard of a problem with a cowboy shower and the water running out the back.

That cowboy shower with the water running out the back is Ok, until it runs across in front of your trailer camper doorway, where you got to walk or manuver in a wheelchair. This was every morning for a week, after 3 people took showers in their trailer while hooked to public utility water, (unlimited supply). The show grounds has nice bath room/shower facilities, (Tennesee Miller Coliseum). We all had asigned camper spaces and I just happened to be down hill from these folks. I did make mention to them of their soap scum on my carpet, but it didn't seem to bother them, that they were disturbing about seven different campers...........(crowleysridgegirl, maybe I should have whacked them with my big hammer!!!)

We use the show facilities (showers and bathrooms) and have the trusty Coleman potty for the road and that wake-up call in the middle of the night. I don't care for all the tanks, plumbing, freezing in the winter, running up on a curb tearing the dump valves off, etc.....

Most places I park are on dirt and if water runs out the back, then I've made a mudhole for myself getting saddles in and out, etc. I just figure the people around me won't appreciate it either.

Have hunted, trail ridden and camped every way it is done.  Now that we have the LQ trailer, I must say it is very nice to have a cool or warm area, private, to shower or use the bathroom.  We dispose of our paper in the trash sack rather than down the toilet, saves some room in the black water tank and no cleaning the tank issues.  When hauling with the 2 horse or stock trailer I take the porta potty for my convenience, as well.  I would say having the conveniences of the LQ are perhaps not must haves, but very convenient and comfortable.  Very glad to have them.

I love my LQ and shower.  A toilet, wether a port a pot or built in is perfect.  I still have my coleman potable toilet that I use from time to time.  I jusat returned from 4 weeks trail riding and for 3 weeks used the facility shower house.

You MUST have your own, clean toilet!
IMO, a shower is great but not necessary (I rodeo, not camp)

By the way... I'm a Dawn B also.

5 gallon strongid (with lid) makes a great commode...not too low to the ground too!       actually better than a commercial "commode" ....they are too low.

we now have nice big lq...no big deal to me....the bucket worked for many years just fine!
