Aftermarket Onan Muffler stuff: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=onan+muffler

As for $299 "quiet" generator, I highly doubt it. Here is a link to Kipor Gensets on ebay, as low as $999 with free shipping. I have one, and it works great.

I bought a Honda clone 6500 watts that will run everything on my LQ.  It is fairly quiet, I paid 999.00 from Boss Tools in Canada.  Smaller ones will be quieter.  Onan is not necessarily the quietest.

Powermate by Coleman is $297 at Walmart. 2500 watts, 3150 peak. I use mine on average 10 hours a day for the past year to power my truck instead of ideling. It is only 110 volt but I have used it to run my LQ trailer and had no problem running the AC and the microwave at same time. It has a 5.5 hp Honda clone engine, 3 gallon tank and will run 10 plus hours running the ac unit. I change oil every 2 weeks and have had no problems but understand...it is a throw away unit. When mine quits, I will buy another just like it!

BTW, as far as quiet, it is only 4 db louder than the Honda. Mine is mounted directly behind the sleeper area of my truck and I never hear it. You can stand next to it and carry on a conversation. For less than 300 bucks how can u go wrong?

tjkcut: The one you are looking is a Champion brand. It's rated at 3500 watts with a 4000 watt surge rating. Search this site, there was a discussion last week about the "quiet Champion generators" I haven't heard one run so I'm giving it to you like it was told to me.

It was Retento and me that had the "go-round" on the 399.00 generator {champion} .Retento knows his stuff,no doubt about it. I do not. I did buy the champion and i have been very happy. I truly have had it run next to a honda and onan, i kid you not, mine was quieter. I am not for buying junk, but i could not pay alot either at the time. I have used it at lots of rodeos and people are surprised that it is quiet. The guy that designed them used to work for honda. A generator is not a big deal to me until it doesnt run or it is so noisy ya do not want to be near it much less sleep with it. I have no stock in the company ,do not care what anyone else chooses but, for me this works perfectly! I guess thats my story and im sticking to it! All you motorheads can take this and run with it- I mean that in the best way possible! No hard feelings here!

It is a Champion genset. 3500Watt or 3.5kw. I have read alot on rv.net about the genny.  Everyone seems to like.  No it is not an inverter generator so if you want to run a laptop on it make sure you use a battery backup system to clean the power up for all your sensitive electronics. That is a heck of a deal for the money.

Oh yeah, the motor on it is supposed to be a Honda clone. If you get one check to ensure the fuel tank is clean.  Only issue that i have heard about.

I bought a Champion 3500W generator earlier this week, and it arrived today.  Details are on my site: http://www.usendurance.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=75

I'm pretty happy with it.  I have not heard it run next to other generators, so am not sure how quiet it is, comparatively speaking.  Started on the 2nd pull; might have started on the first if I'd known how tight it was internally and pulled a little harder.

I paid $340 from PartsExpress.com, including shipping.  For 1/6 the price of a Honda, I think I did pretty well.  That leaves a lot of dough available to trailer to some endurance horseback races this year.

Mike

These Champion generators don't have a "power saver" mode do they?  Maybe they call it "fuel saver", but any how you know what I mean, does it idle itself up or down depending on power demand?  Talk to y'all later...

I looked at that, but decided it wasn't worth the extra $.  My big generator (the one I'll buy in 15 years) will have that feature.  :-)

Mike, thanks for the info. Do you think it's louder than a  regular gen like a coleman etc.? Also could you post the list you got with it. That would help a lot of people figure out what size to buy.    Thanks   Tony

The price seems really good, but, no offense to anyone who owns one, I looked up the specs and 68 decibels at 21 feet would seem quite loud to me (considering busy traffic at 16 feet is around 70dB). I have not heard one, but I'll stick with my Kipor which I have heard next to a comparable Honda and was just as quiet.

tkjcut,

I'll try to post that information tomorrow... 15-hour day at work today... just got home.

At 68db, I'm not overly concerned.  I would say it is louder than the Honda generators I've heard, but is a bigger capacity generator.  Most importantly, the thing fit my budget and has the capacity to serve my operational requirements.

Mike

Yea, fired it up and have put 3+ hours on it so far.  Seems to be a gas miser.  For the price, I'm satisfied.  Now I can put that tax refund into savings.  :-)

How much would you say this unit weighs? Can you pick it up by yourself somewhat easily? Also could you repost the internet address you ordered it from, the one that came up was an audio store.

I ordered mine from www.partsamerica.com.

The unit weighs something like 104 pounds, empty.  I can pick it up and carry it as far as I need to when full of gasoline.  I'm about 135 pounds, wet, but am used to carrying "heavy" stuff around.  The unit is pretty heavy, though, and there are wheel kits available (info included with documents shipped with the generator.)

Will post more later regarding approximate power requirements of various appliances, according to what I received with the generator.
