Merhow came in second on our list of trailers to the one we purchased. But it was a CLOSE second. The ones we looked at were very well built, had heavy hardware and attention to detail was good. The one thing I liked about them the most was heavy hinges, heavy latches, heavy tie downs and seemed to built like a tank. Like I said, they came in CLOSE second. Happy trails.

I think the only problems I had heard about them (well actually saw it) was a VeryLight model (probably from the 1980s when trailers were made to be light and easy to pull) was that a person had tied their horse to the front of the walk thru. They forgot to release the horse and when he backed out he simply pulled the nose of the trailer in as he backed out. I saw that trailer on a dealers lot, so after that I decided to be more careful with ultralight built trailers.
Other than that, my friend has a Merhow VeryLight that served her well for a long time. She was really careful about making sure her horse was untied after I told her about the trailer with the collapsed front end. She just sold that trailer (it was 20 years old) and it looked as good as the day she bought it.

Can someone comment on how the Merhow trailers actually pull? I had a CM 4 horse that weighed 4200 empty, and when loaded didn't feel like anything. I have a Cherokee 3h that is around 6000 empty, and this feels much heavier when empty than the CM did fully loaded. I am interested in the Verylite in a 4h 8ft wide with lq.

You must be a employee there to put this in the forum.
The Verylite is our ll-aluminum trailer featuring 6061-T6 aluminum in all key areas.
I am not sure if you are being very negative or joking about this. What I did was copy the list from the actual web site at www.merhow.com I saw nothing WRONG with that. Yes maybe I should have posted the "info site documetation" but I can guarentee that MANY people on here do not do that when they copy information to requst a question.
How I took the post was that .... Obviously you do NOT want to answer my questions that I have which is sad that you pick THAT out of the whole thread to bash. HUM...
No I do NOT work for MERHOW as why I was asking the question on weight. I have emailed the company a few weeks ago, but have not heard any word from them, so I thought I would ask those on the forum. My apology for doing so.

Horse Trailer World will be doing a Trailer Review for Merhow this spring. Like I said, I have never heard a negative word about Merhow and I grew up in the area they are built. (I'm not telling you how old I am) hehehe In fact, we felt they were the top of the line. Still do.
I deleted the earlier post (The poster registered just for this thread, you can tell by the number of posts beneath their name . . it said 1)
Their purpose was to trash this product and then sell a competing brand. Sorry. Can't do that here. Not on your first post ever.

Well, seeing as how this thread is 11 years old, there's been a lot to change since then. Just saying. May be worth starting a fresh thread.
But with that, none of the brands you mentioned build living quarters. They build trailers, and then go somewhere to have another company install the interior.

Merhow is probably the oldest trailer manufactuer still making trailers. They have not been in the LQ trailer business as long as alot of the ones that you named. I'm a 4 Star lover from way back. In fact, I still own on a 4 Star 3H MT. I bought a 2017 Merhow Alumastar superslide in Mar 2017. Sight unseen from this website. I watched about 20 youtube videos from the Merhow factory and pulled the trigger as soon as one came up with the exact floorplan I wanted. The workmanship is amazing. Some of the best I have every seen. I usually trade ever couple of years and have owned LQ trailers from almost all of the top LQ companies. I wanted a 18 ft SW LQ with real wood and dovetail drawers. But, I didn't want to have to buy another Freightliner to pull it. I wanted the best quality trailer with the biggest high quality LQ that my Ram 3500 could safely handle. As we get older, we want to do more RVing and less horse hauling. Our Merhow is set up to use as a toyhauler as well. The Merhow has more than exceeded our expectations.

I have a 2009 Merhow Alumnastar that I bought used in 2014. I talked to a lot of people and did a lot of research online and could never find very much negative feedback about the brand. I was coming from one of the Sundowners with the bad frames so I was very picky about what I was going to replace it with. It hauls great, the living quarters seem to be well built. Its only a two horse with a 7 foot short wall so when hauling empty it does bounce a bit but I think thats typical of any trailer when pulled empty. Loaded you don't even know its behind you. I typically camp 8-10 weekends a year at horse shows so it does get some use and there are day shows and trail rides in between those. The floors are plain plank aluminum in the horse area and I have a mare that loves to pee in the trailer so I typically have to pull the matts a few times a year and powerwash it but I have seen no signs of pitting in the floor material. The horses seem to be very happy riding in it and I am very happy with the purchase that I made. I have some friends who are on their second Equistar and another friend bought their first Equistar and both parties are very happy and have had no major problems.
