Hi all...

http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/home/trailerdetail.asp?ID=203108

What do you think of this trailer? Would you spend the money on something this old?  This is pretty much exactly what I was looking for, except that I wouldn't mind having mangers, maybe.   I have no more information on it other than what you see here.. I've e-mailed the guy but no reply as yet... It may be too heavy for my current vehicle (as evidenced by the elec. jack), but it looks to be in good shape and the price is certainly attractive.. i would have thought it was a scam until I noted the trailer's age..

Thanks for your opinions.

Leslie

Good name brand, drop downs on both sides, looks well cared for. To me age doesn't matter, condition does. If you assume the worse, and have to add new tires, bearings and brakes, you would be set for many more years. If it looks this well after 16 years, you know it is a good trailer.

Carefully check the flooring panel. Many stretch and oil can after a while.

If it's a legitimate sale, I would consider it a good buy. Price a new one and compare.

I agree with gard. Though it may be a little high, BUT a well name brand with lots of great features.

Depending on your location and your ability to haggle you should be able to have them service the trailer before you buy it. ie:check brakes, bearings, lights, etc...(repack or replace bearings, adjust or replace brakes)

I HAVE been!.... (Lord!!! Have I ever been..LOL!!)... I've even been up to the 4-star place in Willis, TX,  @ 5-6 hours from here.. i know I want a 4-star, hart, or Cimmarron and have been looking for ages... I've found a few, but something always seems to stop me.. This looks good to me, too.. I know my husb will have a comment about the age, but he is non-horsey and thinks of trailers like he thinks of cars.. You wouldn't want to buy a car this old.   It very nearly has everything that I would order on a new one.... for at least $11,000 less.

If it turns out to be a scam, I'm going to be sooooooo ticked off..

Go for it!!! You don't find them with that red carpet in the DR's like that any more!! LOL!... Trailer looks real good for it's age. I say the ad is legit, it's a keeper.

The ad itself looks legitimate too.  Several phone numbers (all with TX area codes), email with URL, looks like a dealer, you could check out the URL and contact them directly if you are concerned.

Looks like a nice, well-maintained trailer. The age would not scare me at all.

Here's another one that I liked the look of....What do ya'll think of this one?.. It's a little newer , is 8 ft wide (plenty big enough for a cot when I go camping by myself and don't feel like setting up a tent.), it's rear tack collapses, is a little fancier, AND a bit more expensive.                                                              The 4-star weighs about 3800 lbs, which with 2 horses would be getting to the high end of my weight limit on my vehicle..(6000 Lbs)..BUT, I've about decided to make the switch from an SUV to a truck.. I don't really want a truck for my only vehicle, but I need one.. My car is being treated as a truck right now... might as well make the switch and make it official... If I do, it will probably be toward the end of this year when the '09s are marked down.. I was thinking of the Ford F150 with the integrated brake box and built in WDH/anti-sway bars.. That would also give me about 9000Lbs of towing capacity, more than enough for my simple needs.

correction: The F 150 would give me @ 11,200 lbs towing capacity..I rechecked the brochure.  And the other trailer (the Hart) does NOT have a collapsing rear tack, which is the only thing about the 4-star that I wish was different that couldn't be changed

I like the 4 Star better. I would guess with the "Justin" logos all over the Hart, that it has really seen the miles.

Thanks for everyone's opinion.... I've corresponded via e-mail with this guy..I guess I'll call him today.......   I started out looking for a bigger trailer, so as to have the extra stall for storage, but wasn't sure if I really needed it.  My husband accuses me of being a Queen Bee, wanting the best of everything..   But, since I've been looking for a trailer for a couple of years, I guess I won't feel guilty if I end up getting this one..

I know this guy.  He is a very reputable dealer.  Sells trailers at his home - usually new Elites.  Almost bought a new Elite from him 4 yrs ago.  He has very little overhead so can sell cheaper than most.  This one must have been a trade-in.  You can probably negotiate a little with him.  I would do it before you came to look at it because once you are here he may feel he has snagged you.

I really like the 4-star but I'm confused why the awning is on that side.  Seems like it would make more sense to have it on the side with the DR door, and not on the side with the ladder.

Some people add them for the horses to have shade.  I have only used mine for the horses.....

Oh, I see.  My horse is never loaded on the trailer when I have the awning out... and if he's corralled next to the trailer he has to be on the side without the awning because he's such a nosy bugger.    He'd eat it, or find some other way to destroy it.

I called this fella about the trailer this morning.... There's a lady on her way to look at it now... I guess if she decides not to get it, or (I guess) if she's undecided, I'll hop in the car and make a (looooong!) daytrip up there for a look.

Ohhh HE IS BAITING YOU. But an honest bait and lure. Get a cashiers check for what you want to pay for it and put what you will pay for it in cash in your pocket to make any difference up and go pull the current economic status on this guy. As nice as he is he took it in trade and probally gave up 3 and not much more than 4k for it off his new deal. Make a rediculous low offer and watch him closely. But remember if you have to walk away then so be it. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks anyway for every one's opinion.... I'm sure I'll be asking again sometime if I EVER find what I'm looking for at a price I can afford..

Thanks again.
