When using the pump and water out of the water holding tank do I need to cap off the water inlet for the water connection? I have never ran out of the holding tank before because I have always been hooked up to the water supply. When I ran the pump water came back out through the water supply connection. I was unsure if that inlet needed to be capped off. It is not the inlet for the water holding tank, it is the inlet for the constant water supply.

There should be a one way valve on the city water inlet.  Look at where your hose connects and see if it is stuck open.  Mine looks kind of like a valve stem like whats on the tires.
