Does anyone know the usual type of weather to be expected in the Pecos Woildernes in mid to late Oct?? We are planning on riding out of Jacks Creek Horse Camp. I am worried that, with an elevation of about 9200' we may run into some wintery conditions.

When I travel to places like that and don't know what to expect I prepare for the worst and hope for the best.October is a month of suprises, it can be great weather then snow.

I take chains, not cable chains, but chains for my truck, set for front and rear.Plus chains for my trailer since some places require drag chains on trailers.

Take plenty of food and warm clothing incase you get caught in a storm and need to wait it out.

Horses....plenty of food and horse blankets.

It is quite a wait sometimes if the road gets closed by a slide or deep snow drifts.
