I want to  put a battery on my trailer to run the interior lights when we are at shows.  I also want the battery to charge off the truck when it is hooked up.  How do I go about doing this?  Do I put the battery in parallel with the wiring?

Thanks

Yes.

Clearly NOT is series.

If your tow vehicle is a Ford it will probably NOT suppply voltage to the trailer when the key switch is in the OFF position. This is good in that it protects the truck battery from discharging at camp sites, less good if you want/need to use some of the truck's battery capacity. GM vehicles supply power whether the key is in the ON or OFF position, if you think there is danger of running the tow vehicle battery down at camp sites simply unplug the trailer.
