I was de-winterizing my trailer last weekend (finally!) and while I was putting water in the tank to rinse out the lines, I heard water running out somewhere. It was my city water hookup, and the soft rubber plug was blown open and water was shooting out. I have never ever used city water on any of my trailers, so really haven't paid much attention to it. The rubber plug cap obviously needs to be replaced because it doesn't snap in anymore but my question is, should there be any other cap on that thing? I can't believe that is the only thing that should be on there with the force of that water shooting out of there. I screwed one of those hose fittings that has a shut off valve on it in the meantime but am I missing something since this has never happened before.

Yes. :) The rubber cap is to keep dirt away from the screen. The city water hookup has a backflow preventer built into it, that obviously isn't working anymore. I'm not sure if you can access parts for just that, or you'l replace the entire assembly as that is how it is sold. With that, I'd think your plug will work as well for the time being.
