I just bought a 96 Moritz stock trailer. It was painted 5 years ago by the previous owner but now it has some surface rust. It looks like it has Ford tractor blue color on it right now. Anyway, I need to help to decide the best way to fix this up.
I can either sand the rust off or try to sand blast it. Our compressor would be borderline OK for sand blasting. Also, I'm not sure whether to use Rustoleum primer or that stuff that transforms rust. If I use the rust transformer stuff will primer stick to it? I was planning on using tractor paint and primer but is there something better for this trailer? Thanks very much!

On steel, once the rust has been removed by mechanical means or blasted with various materials, you can use a rust converter before any primer or coating is applied. Some are phosphoric acid based, some are water based. They  convert the rust into an oxide that stops the rust and provides a paintable surface. An etching seal/primer works well under the finish paint coats.
