Do you some of you feel this is the longest winter we have had in some time? This is the first time in many years that I have not been able to ride at least a few days a week. If it's not snowing, below freezing with dangerous wind chills, then it's sooo muddy that even the gravel roads are hazardous (I use the term "gravel" loosely). I'm gonna have the most out of shape, unfit horse come Spring... if it ever gets here. Not too mention how out of shape I am! Ha!
I've got all my vacation plans booked and I am just dreaming about riding in a beautiful green forest with all the wonderful earthy smells and chirping birds. I'm looking forward to the first meadowlark mating song and chorus of frogs.
I keep telling myself, just a few more weeks - you can make it!

I am with ya! We've had more snow and cold weather than I can remember in years. When it isn't snowing it's raining but at least we didn't get another ice storm like last year. We usually ride quite a bit in the winter also but not this year. I'm really getting grumpy. Summer will probably so hot we won't be able to breathe. Ha.

agree ...this winter is draggin on something awful...wind, cold, snow....,every week now, we get 4-5-6 inches of snow..on top of what we got the week before... I am so in need of some sunshine, green grass, fresh springtime air...the calendar says we only have 5 weeks until Spring..but it sure don't feel like it here

After we have dried out the past two weeks have been just beautiful. The horses are shedding out, trees are starting to bud, even noticed the sand hill cranes are starting to migrate north. I've spent more time riding these two weeks than all winter. We even got up to 61 today. Hang in there its coming.

This has been the never ending winter for us. To make matters worse for me, I have a brand new saddle that I haven't been able to try out yet. I think next February we shoot the ground hog!

Anybody got a recipe for groundhog stew? I'll bring the taters.
I agree this has been a looong winter. Global warming my A$$!!!
We are finally getting above freezing today All the snow has slidden off the roof and I can actually see a little patch of grass sticking up through the snow in the yard. We are supposed to get rain this weekend. Maybe it will melt the 3 foot drift at the bottom of my driveway.
I can't help but wonder...with so much precipitation this early in the year, we may be in for a heck of a drought this summer.

I just want to thank you guys out west and down south for taking the brunt of winter for us this year. Although we did have quite a bit of snow in Feb., winter hasnt been all that bad here.
Now that I just jinxed myself, we will get snow in May!

Yes, I agree. I thought it was just me getting grumpy and old. Have ridden like 6 times since Jan 1. Can't even get the trailer out-it is mudded in in our barn. If it hasn't been snowing or pissing rain it has been windy and cold or simply just too muddy to even keep up a good trot. Please Mr. Sun come out come out where ever you are!!!

I have had a big snow drift on the north side of the house since before thanksgiving. More snow last night, more predicted for tonight, another major storm coming in wednesday, and another for the weekend. I wish El Nino would give it a rest already!!

We have gone over 80 days with out seeing 40 degrees!! It was -8 this morning. Right now we are 5th coldest winter on record. I'm wondering if we go longer with out seeing 40 degrees if we will move up on the record. I'm sick of cold!!!! I want spring to get here.

Global Warming!
By golly, if we don't raise more cattle (for the methane effect), burn more diesel, and breath harder...

Won't be long and we'll be complaining about the size of the horse flies here in Illinois. The good riding weather will come--memories must sustain us for now!
