Took Fancy out for her 3rd off the ranch trail ride. She does so much better off the ranch, I tend to think the horses get sour after a bit working down there too much. We did another 21 miler at Paderee Res. and rode the Mokelumne Coast 2 Crest trail and trotted quite a bit of that. I wanted her to get used to the rock staircases as we usually run into alot of those in the mountains, so what better way to get her in the swing of things by taking her back down into the Mokelumne River canyon watershead and try them again. Last ride I had to get off and walk her down them, or I should say "jump" down them. Now with Josie these are "no problem", she is slow and cautious, but this little Arab/Quarter is so fast stepping and in the "get 'er done mode" it's hard to get used to. I walked her down them again not feeling to sure ontop of her, and she walked better this time, so did the bridge and up the log stairs also. Going down is gonna be a training session with her, as it is a narrow trail and the side is straight down into the river canyon, no horse play on those whatsoever! On the way back I go, ok, I'm just gonna get on and grab a handful of that long thick mane and get up them switched back stairs. Now these are hairpin switchbacks too, not long and straight like the ones I encountered in the Emigrant Wilderness last July with Josie. Up that little mare went and turned like her body was a rubber band! I just kept praising her and coaching her, and the more I did that the better all the way up she did, she even started to snort and toss her head, as she was happy with the praise!

Ok, on to the greenery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course a quick shot of the new set up (the new Dodge with my Logan).....

Shot of the old Wildermuth house, it's all made of sandstone...........

Heading on up this hill.....
 -

and looking back down it........
 -

I could swear with all this green grass I felt Fancy drag her nose in it a couple times and felt her knees start to buckle.....

Fancy and I at Patti's Point, this overlooks where the river comes into Lake Pardee.
 -

The Mokelumne River....
 -

Now as I ride up to where the staircases come in I see this sign post, yeah right, I think, ok, now if I was on Josie, "no problem", but I have a horse here new to all this............

 -

I ride a ways down and come to this.........
 -

and looking back up at them......
 -

still posting............

and like I said I did get her to go up them on the way back. Now this next picture was no problem, she can do this all day. It doesn't look that scary but it's a ways up over a pretty deep gulch, and it bounces a bit too............
 -

Looking up the trail.............
 -

Now all this trail on one side is straight down, and straight down only, so it makes you cringe quite a bit. I don't do that often, but as I say I always have "ole' Josie" to help me out, but gotta start fresh and new so gives me that fear back that I haven't had in awhile to make things fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rode back and towed Fancy on home. It was a great spring day, nice weather perfect, not too cool and not warm, rode with my sweatshirt off all day, and the scenery was awesome as was the trail. Next time I'm gonna ride Fancy down them hairpin switched back stairs...........

It's nice to see some green. I'm surprised to see it's green even under foot on the trail.

Doesn't it get used much?

Nice pics. That step trail looks much worse looking down than it does looking up. Glad to hear you a had a great ride. Please send some green to MO asap.

GOLLLLLLLY!!

Cowpony, if you keep the rest of us droolin like this, we will rebel and start campin on your doorstep!  ( I too know about that Arab quickstep!)  We have lots of shalely, loose, slickrock sand stone, and it can be like being on ball bearings some times.  Who made those trails so neat? Did someone have to put every rock and log in place?  Gorgeous scenery and as usual too much fun! Wait until "Crazy Trail Rider" see's them!  She and her "haffie love stairs!

I'm so jealous. People that have that kind of riding practically in their back yards are so lucky. Love the pictures, but then all your pictures are great. Thanks for sharing.

WOW!  Thank you for the dose of spring!!  It was 17 degrees, snowing, and windy here to day but wonder of all wonders, we actually had sunshine and blue sky too.  The horses are starting to shed so it won't be long until I'm back in the saddle.

I don't see how you get all of those big photos to post on here, myself. All of the colors and details, when I try to download one of mine,it won't download because it says it is too large, but,it doesn't look as big or detailed as some of these.

I guess I'm just a DUUUU when it comes to this.(among some other things.)But I really don't get it.

You know you're prob. gonna go "grrrrr" when I tell ya, but I post on so many other trail forums that when I type one, I just copy and paste it to all the others, and for some reason it works. You may want to try an online photo book like photobucket, they have html, http's, img. codes etc. and some sites you need those to post, that way it'll condense the pixels, etc. and put it to work on the fourm board you need..........hope that helped ya some....

Thanks again for a beautiful set of pics. They're so motivating. I worked on shedding out my horses today.....Gawd, that hair never ends! The farrier came mid-day so it was a good day to hang out and get ready for Spring.

BTW, Euer Valley is still open, but with a different camp host. I'll let you know the dates when I get them from my friend, but I do know it's during Reno's "Hot August Nights", whatever that is! Wanna meet up?

Let me know the exact date here in the next 2 weeks, as I've got tons of rides planned already with far away forum board folks! But yes, still want to meet up with yall there! I had heard they were changing host as the owners didn't want to do it anymore? So figured another one of my "gotta go ride there spots" was out the door. But good they just changed hosts. Hot August Nights is in Reno, it's a week long classic car, hot rod, cruising, show, etc. I'm sure if you google it you can find out more. We never go, but that shouldn't affect Euer Valley, maybe more traffic for you guys coming up, but no biggie, just take your time and all will be good. Got a 5 dayer planned down at Montana De Oro in Oct. with some forum board buddies. Gonna do some California seal cutting! LOL!!!!!! You can PM me and I can give you my cell phone and info to get a hold of me.......

Ok found the dates for Hot Aug. nights August 1 - August 10, 2008, are these the dates yall are going? Let me know the exact dates, did you get reservations already and include me and one horse in on that too!!!!!
