A friend and I was looking at my crooked stirrups I just recently put on my saddle.  I have a question on if I have them on right or not because she didn't think I did.

When the stirrups are turned in the position you'd have them when your foot is in the stirrups, it's level across the base where you're foot rests.  On one side of the stirrup it's longer and the other side is shorter and has the crooked part.  I have the crooked part on the inside near the horse and the long side on the outside of my foot.

Do I have them on right or wrong?  Thanks!

Yes, they help your knees and I had someone tell me it helped their hips.

I love my crooked stirrups!! They have helped my knees and my little toe!! LOL!! My little toe would go numb while riding and since I have been using these I haven't had it happen, plus my knees aren't achy when I'm done either!! I won't ride without them! But 1 of my friends tried them and since she is REALLY long legged, they didn't make a difference for her at all. She is so long in the leg that her foot is completely straight by the time they reach the stirrup!!

Rock horse    I have the same problem with my toe. Glad to hear it is just not me.  I checked into the Crooked stirrups and the web-site seem to have several different ones,I was wondering if you were a trail rider which ones you bought?  They seem to talk about ones for performance.

Thanks!

illini, I bought the basic barrel racer stirrup originally. I loved them, so my DH made me a pair out of diamond plate aluminum that I use now. The original pair is on my "spare" saddle!! I don't ride without them!!

I have been using Crooked stirrups for about 2 years...they are great. No more knee pain, no more 'one foot goes to sleep' in the stirrup.

I picked up a used pair for $40...best $40 spent in a while.

I kept the other pair of regular so if I sell the saddle, I can switch them out.

Rode with my new Crooked Stirrups today and I am now definitely a believer......much much more comfortable in the saddle and not nearly as stiff on dismounting at end of ride.  The acid test will be tomorrow as I am going out again with my friend ACY............now off to a hot shower!

You're welcome Rose!

I bought a pair of Walls off of E-bay and paid half the price.  I'm liking them so well, I'm considering buying a pair for my other saddle.  If you pull up slanted stirrups, you can find a nice variety of choices too.

If you want some relief on your knees, try a pair of "Stirrup Straight" adapters. They work with your original stirrups and take the 90 degree twist out of the leathers. Have been using them for 20+ years after laying a horse over on my left leg. You can get these at Valley Vet. They're still about $20 a pair. Highly recommended to keep the leg straight and taking the pressure off the toe - and you get to keep your stirrup that matches your saddle. PDG

The stirrup straight adapters are great for keeping your stirrups straight without twisting the leathers but the crooked stirrups help more with the position of the foot and ankle in a different manner.  My husband has the crooked stirrups with stirrup straights and he no longer has any hip pain when riding.  Both are great items but IMO not interchangable.  There is something about the angle of the crooked stirrups that provides position a stirrup straight does not.  Again, just my opinion.
