Thanks anyway, but MY amazing discovery is to stop putting the black streaks on.

BTW, this DOES appear to be a_NOTHER blatant ad.

Reg, after just having spent an afternoon scrubbing (with the black streak remover and a scrub brush, mine did not just wipe off) my trailer to get rid of 2 years worth of black streaks I'd love to know how to avoid them! Please do tell!

Glad it worked for you but I've tried that product and scrubbed till my arms fell off and it didn't work.  After trying several of those type of products, I'm convinced that none of them work.  The only thing that seems to remove those black streaks is a good washing and a good waxing.  Waxing seems to be THE key.

Most of them seem to come from the roof, just avoid washing the oxides down from above, i.e. just let the roof turn a darker gray.

I am going to wax my new trailer with NuFinish. It is a polish won't harm the finish.

I have tried everything under the sun also and found that a product call Purple Power works better than anything, trailer will truely be white again. It can be bought at Auto Zone that's the only place I have found it so far, I have been using it for about three years now.

On my old trailer I used EQSolutions and it works great.  They have a whole line of products for Truck/trailer.  I do not sell them, but I know alot of Trailer places use it and that is where I got it from!

I have tied all those black streak removers and finally talked to a guy at a camper place that details them. He said "save your money, the only that works is a degreaser and elbow grease". I tend to agree as I have tried it all and use a degreaser now.

I thought that Purple Power says right on the bottle not to use it on painted aluminum?

I didn't read the label, as I said above I have been washing the trailers with it for about 3 years now with NO Damage. It's the only thing I have found to work.

Just take the purple power in the squirt bottle and squirt it on the trailer starting at the top and working your way down, then wash the trailer with a brush and just regular detergent like you would a car. It should take two squirt bottles full to wash a trailer. I wash 14 ft. shortwall with it and it takes two bottles. They also sell refill jug at Auto Zone I think it's a gallon. It'll work I guarentee it, and I don't sell it!

Well, I went out and bought the Purple Power and it did work pretty well.  I diluted it a little in a spray bottle and sprayed it on and let it sit for a little bit.  Realized it worked better without diluting it though.  Got most of the black streaking off but unfortunately I got a little of the overspray onto the extruded aluminum part.  Arrgh!  It streaked it up pretty good and hubby was most unhappy when I showed him that.  So, I'll have to say that it did work pretty well but I'll have to be careful not to get any one the unpainted, extruded aluminum next time.

Thank you so much for the advice on the streak remover.  Wish I had read your post before I tried (unsuccessfully) the old elbow grease method!

Has anyone tried Greased Lightning? I have used it about 6 times and seemed to work really well. Only after reading this did I think to read instructions.....says "do not use on painted surfaces". Uh-oh! Hope my trailer doesn't slowly disintegrate!
