Does anyone have an opinion on the SIDEKICK trailers? I am not familiar with this brand...what is the quality of these trailers? I have had a 4star and Platinum prior to this...

Hi Lisa,
We own a '01 Sidekick - 3 H 8.5 SW - I love it - it is made well, it is a heavy trailer, but it pulls so nice . I have owned for over 2 yrs now. I can't complain. 8' wide - queen size bed.

I posted once a while ago about sidekick. As for quality comaperd to 4 star, it will blow the 4 star out of the water and it is comparable if not better then bloomer. They are not a high production facility, they prefer to build a smaller amount of trailers so that each trailer is designed and built to the highest level of quality availible. The same company also builds custom firetrucks (Unruh Fire) among a few other products. Dan Bown is the owner and Monte is the man in charge of the Sidekick line. Monte is also a horse person which is something you want when ordering a trailer. You would be suprised how many salesman who sell horse trailers have never hauled horses before. We have been to the plant and seen how the trailers are built and if you have any questions you can PM me and I will try to answer them. Overall, you will not go wrong with this brand.

Are you related in any way to the man that owns Unruh/sidekick. You both share the same last name and seem to live in the same state. If so, your opinion of Sidekick/Unruh and your criticism of their competitors could be viewed as not entirely " unbiased". To want to help a relative is commendable, but to do it at the expense of other honest companies is not.

Thank you for pointing out the same last name....I never noticed that. No, we are not related in any way. Last time I checked Brown is a very common last name. We were a dealer for them until recently when we closed our doors. I was not critisizing those other brands at all, just stating my opinion. If you don't believe me about the quality of Sidekick...go check it out for yourself.

That's a big statement about Sidekick,4 Stars, and Bloomers, I, having been in all three have to disagree,......... big time. That being said Sidekick does build a nice trailer, just not in the same class as the big guys.

Maybe it is a big statement, but all I can tell you is go and check out their production plant in Wichita, KS. They make a very nice trailer and you cannot compare the trailers that were made by the old owners to the ones that are being built now. They believe in quality over quantity to provide a better product.

The interlocking plank flooring in the stall area of the Sidekick, is far superior to a one piece sheet metal flooring. There is no oil caning, metal stretch or apparent flooring deflection, while new or with age. The floor joists are massive and closely spaced against the heavy perimeter frame structure. It is one of the strongest, long lasting constructions I've seen.

When did the Sidekick trailer mfg change ownership and engineering? Was it fairly recent? I hauled with a gal a few years back that pulled one and I would have described her Sidekick more as a Sundowner clone. Nothing about it reminded me of a 4 Star or a Bloomer.

How many of the newer Sidekick trailers did you sell before you went out of business? What about the lifetime warranty on the living quarters(RZR) you built and sold? Who is going to honor these warranties?

Duckman, I don't know who you are or if you have one of our interiors. We were FORCED to close our doors by a very dishonest bank official who has done everything in his power to shut us down and put us and our customers in this position. As for our warranty, that is something that will hopefully be resolved in the near future. As for how many units we had sold was 4 in two months all large units. Unfortunatly those sales were never completed because of the above mentioned closure of our business. If you have any future issue with us, please feel free to PM us.

I am so confused. On a previous posting you insisted you were not related to the owners of sidekick, however your username is the same as the one that was used to say you were out of business and were forced there by a bank. Please explain.

Ok, I don't think this is that complicated. Yes, we were forced to close our doors because of the bank that we were using has some dishonest people working for and running it. At one point we were hopeful of reopening. So the Sidekick trailers we had ordered we had to cancel those orders and the contracts with the customers. Do you understand that. Also, once again we are not related to Steve Brown in any way. This post was started to ask about opinions of a trailer brand compared to some others. This has turned into a bash fest. Now if you have a personel bone to pick with us PLEASE PM me and I will provide you with a phone number to reach me personally. Having to close a business that you have worked very hard for is not an easy thing to do. This has been very difficult one me and my family, so please respect that and do not continue to berate us about this situation.
