Need some advice!  I just bought an Exiss LQ trailer (used 2007 model).  Everything seems to work okay but I can't seem to get the dome lights in the horse area to turn on.  There is a switch on the back of the trailer, but when I switch it to "on" nothing lights up (I checked bulbs & all are okay).  Is there any other switch that I need to flip for these lights to work??  Thanks for your suggestions!    Heather

The horse area lights are powered by the tow vehicle aux power.  They should be controlled by the switch at the rear door.  Do the loading lights work?  Does your truck require the engine to be running to power the aux power feed?

My Exiss requires the trailer to be plugged into the truck and the key to be on to power the horse compartment lights.

Our Exiss stall lights run off of the LQ battery. The trailer does not have to be plugged into a truck or shore cord, for the lights to work. If the battery is dead, or if the main battery switch is "off", these lights won't work. We also have a bank of fuses, one of which protects the stall lights. Any one of these conditions may cause the lights to be inoperative.

Do your internal lights work without the shore cord being plugged in? If they do, your battery is good and the battery switch is on. If the fuse checks out and your bulbs are good, you will have to do some trouble shooting. I would pull your switch and see if you have power available there, and through the switch itself. Then check for voltage at the bulb sockets. With that new a trailer, I would doubt that the switch is worn out or the wiring has failed. Does it look like there is any mechanical damage done to the light switch itself?

Our other trailer, not an Exiss, had a similar set up previously posted where the truck powered the lights. On my Ford diesel, not only did the ignition switch have to be on, but the motor had to be running. I modified the trailer so that these lights can now be powered either by the LQ batteries or the truck.

Exiss LQs are built by several different conversion companies, and each one wires them a little differently. Ours has a Sierra, your's may differ.

Thanks guys!  I have not tried hooking up to our truck to test, but I bet that will do the trick.  All of our LQ lights, fans, etc. work...batteries show a full charge & fuses seem to be okay.  It seems odd to me that the dome lights in the horse area will only work when hooked up to the truck...guess that's just the way Exiss decided to do things.  Our LQ was done in '06 by Harmar Conversions.  If hooking up to my truck solves the problem I may find a way to splice those lights into the ones in LQ that are run by battery.  It's a cold & rainy day here, but if it lets up I will go out & try to hook up lights to my truck - THANKS FOR THE IDEAS/SUGGESTIONS!    Heather

I'm glad you asked this question.  We're having the same issue with the Elite we just bought.   Never thought about it having to be hooked up to the truck

Thanks-- I'll check that out!

Fuse 14 in the LQ is Blown.  I bet my next beer on it!

My Sooner has a Harmar LQ in it, those Hamar guys are terrific call them any time you need help.

First word out of the techs mouth was "Fuse 14"

We had exactly your problem when we brought our trailer home. The cool thing about fuse 14 is it is the charge circuit that allows the truck to charge the battery while driving.

Let me know if this helped.

Jim

I wanted to mention that I had to replace the switch that controlled the interior dome lights on our trailer 3 times in the 12 years we owned it.  It seems that because it was located outside,  it just got too much corrosion and would not make a good contact when trying to turn the lights on.  I reran the wires so the swich was in the rear tack compartment on the inside of the trailer and that seemed to fix the problem for good.

Water damage is a common problem with the externally mounted switches. When they do fail, using marine quality replacements, will greatly extend their life spans.

Often flooding one of the exterior switches with WD-40 while operating it will bring it back to life. And often, for a long time! Squirt around the ball part of the lever.

Okay, so I hooked my truck up & with the truck running the lights still do not work.  This is either a fuse issue or something bigger.  And JIM, YOU OWE ME A BEER!  I don't even have a #14 on my fuse box....mine only goes to #12.  Bud Light Lime is my beverage of choice....but I'll drink just about anything as long as it's cold!   I will call Harmar tomorrow to see if they have any ideas.  I was told when I bought the trailer that it had the charge circuit feature that allows the battery to be charged while driving.  Or I may call the dealer where I bought the trailer (last Wednesday, 12/25)...he was supposed to have gone over "everything" on the trailer to make sure all was 100% in working condition.  If there is something wrong with it I am still covered by the Exiss warranty.  Water damage sounds like a curious culprit as well....now why don't all trailer companies install that switch somewhere in the rear tack where it is protected from the elements???  Makes sense to me....I guess that is why they don't do it! I will let you know what I find out!    Heather

DAM!  Cyber BEER?

Stick with the Harmar guys.  They are terrific,They told me all thier LQs are the same (?) and maybe not a fuse 14 but it may be another one.

I would call Harmar first My dealer wanted to run wires and circuts and solve world hunger.  But after the harmar guy spent 5 minutes on the portable phone with me while I lay on the floor of the LQ looking at the fuse panel,  I was all set.

I hope you get the same quick fix!

IT WAS THE FUSE!!!  So I went out late this morning & studied the fuse box.  And Jim, you were right on the problem.....my fuse box had the #12 fuse labeled as "charge line" & that keyed me to check that one 1st.  Sure enough, when I pulled that baby out it was burnt!  And when I replaced it with another one...POW...the dome lights in the horse area work!!  Whoo Hoo!!!  I'll still take that cyber beer though!!  Thanks guys, for all of the suggestions & troubleshooting tips!  We got this one solved!!

I have a ford diesel truck and the truck has to been running for the interior trailer lights to be able to work.  How do you modify it so that they can work off the truck/ trailer battery when the truck is not turned on?
