My sister recently bought a used trailer with living quarters and it doesn't have a screen door on it, and can't install an rv one, someone told me that there are retractable screen doors that can be put on. Has anyone used them before?

We've got these screens on our house and really like them. They install with a track at the top of doorway and bottom, then retract into a roll approx. the size of a papertowel tube. Held closed by a series of magnets. The brand we have is Phantom Screen. Am planning on installing them on our trailer.

A camping buddy of mine had one and it was terrible - it would get off track, wouldn't close/open, etc. She ended up buying a whole new door and screen door that opens up like a door. This ws for a Sundowner trailer and it was the only way it could be installed.
I for one would never get a retractable one as I camped with her and it was pretty miserable.

I have one on my trailer and it is great. Lason makes on and you can get it at Menards or building supply place. The trailer doors are much stronger than the camper doors with screens. Recommend that people buy a trailer with trailer door and put a retractable screen on it.

Ours were installed by a local company. Unfortunately they were pricey in our case($300+), as we have double/french doors. You can go to phantomscreens.com to get more info., but there has to be a more reasonable alternative, and I would hope that when we buy for the trailer, the price will be considerably less.

A friend of mine has one on her Silver Star and she doesn't like it. It is hard to manuever and gets off of the track. It could be the brand of screenthat makes a difference.

Like everything else ...they have pros and cons........
great idea...but the track thing that someone else spoke about sometimes is a factor....
You really have to keep that bottom track clean of dirt and rocks....not always easy...they tend to hang up when that track is not clean..hard to work..can be a pain...
Great for dogs and kids because they are designed to retrcted if ran into or pushed on.....you don't have to worry as much about replacing screen.......

Love mine. Had it on our trailer since we bought it 2 years ago and have never had a problem with it (knock on wood) Wanted a screen door when we bought the trail and didn't expect to get the retactable one. Was skeptical at first but we really like it. If I'd of known that is what they were going to install I'd of done it myself.

Not dog proof.
Depends on how well your dog is trained. Mine stays in until I open the door no matter what's going on outside. Gotta love Border Collies.
But if you look at from the other side a dog could get into your trailer that way not to mention raccoons or other curious critters...
