Cowpony...Thanks for sharing! I always enjoy your pics.

How long did it take you to ride up to the lake?  Living in KY, I am always awed at the shots of folks riding in short sleeves when there is snow on the ground.  I'm going to make my way out there one of these days!!!

RIDE ON!

6 hours round trip, it's actually only 14 miles total but it's a rough riding trail, so it makes for a longer day. Also, better have a good inshape horse with good shoes, lots of granite rock steep uphills and downhills as you read......

  Hey Cowpony..

Good to see ya over here.

I just looked at all your pics, and drooled over the settings. That offer still stands if you are ever down the So. Cal Desert way, for a ride to the Saddleback State Park, and up to Mescal cyn. We are heading to the central coast for a week next month, so I am dreaming of cool mornings, and beach rides at Montana De Oro and Morro Bay.

Well agin I'll be seeing you on the boards...Steve AKA..Siseley

Hey Steve,

Just got back from a 4 day campout up Hwy 88 at Schneiders Cow Camp, rode some of the old Mormon Emigrant Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and old Hwy 50. I wish I could get down to the beach! I would love to go, that has been one of my dreams since I was a little girl, to ride on the beach! Trying to get a trip planned for Point Reyes in Sept or Oct. may not be till Feb. I know those months are summer down there. Morro Bay I think is a little farther south from the Point. Still wish I could ride with ya all on that trip. When are you going? Keep in touch! I should have pics and a story up on my site by the end of the week, I'll post when ready!

Beach riding seems to be a dream for alot of people, but having done it at least 20 times, the reality is it's okay as long as:

You go at low tide and have at least one great beach horse to get the others in.  Most horses are terrified when they see the waves and look really funny as they stare at the water as it receeds.  I've had horses practically sit on their butts trying to get away from the waves.  I had one gelding that I took 5 times and he never got used to the beach. My TW was scared to death, but one of his barn mates was good and she convinced him to go in and he did pretty good.   Plus they absolutely HATE getting water in their ears, so you gotta be careful about letting the waves hit them too much.     If you go at high tide, forget it and cantering along on the shore, again only if they get used to it can you get them to do it.  My legs have gotten exhausted trying to convince a horse to get in and trying to lead them in can be dangerous as they pull away from you.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'll take a nice clear lake anyday over the beach.  Clear water so you can see if any gators are swimming nearby...

I don't believe we have gators in our oceans here in Cali, sharks yes, but gators no.....

Still gonna get there someday, gotta do it. I have alot of dream rides I need to start accomplishing. Although nothing to me beats the mountains of the sierras as you can see from my website.....

I love it all,yes it takes some patients to get a horse to like the  water but it is fun! easier to spot sea shells and sand dollars!
