Hi folks,
Advice please. I am considering a Titan 2 horse slant OR possibly a 2 horse slant Avalanch II or III. Drop downs on headside and sliders on rump side. Little dressing room. Will my Ford Explore pull the 2 horse? What about the 3 horse?
(I already pull a 1993 steel stock trailer which holds 2 horses.)
I am also considering the Titan 3 horse Primo and I think it has slant load dividers. Would the Explore pull this?

Just my opinion, I really don't want to hurt your feelings but there is no way I would risk the lives of my animals and everyone else on the road behind a midsize suv. They are just not designed to pull trailers.

Thanks for advice. I will definitely stop considering 3 horse.
'lIll check to see how much the titan avalanche 2 horse weighs (does anyone know?) or their 2 horse stock trailer.
Perhaps I'll have to go with the pricier but lighter aluminum? We don't haul far or much as we trail ride and can directly access nearly 30 miles of trail. I do need to get my horse to vet school if we have a serious problem, that is about 40 miles from our house.

W.
We have a 2004 Ford Explore XLT with 4 wheel drive. Looking at our owner's manual, door sticker and engine sticker it seems we are capable to tow 3400 lbs.
One ad I saw said the Titan 2 horse slant with drop down and sliding windows is 3600 empty.
Our current 1993 stock trailer is labeled to be capable for 7000 pounds loaded (but the plate doesn't say how much the trailer weights without cargo. I seem to recall several years ago when we bought it that the dealer told us that we were at the top end but could mitigate the difficulty with with the upgraded hitch and brakes. We had a load leveling /balancing hitch installed and had an electric brake unit installed in the car to brake the trailer wheels.
Our horses are 16 hand quarter horses, perhaps 1200-1300 each, we need to haul 2 at a time = 2600 pounds.

So all you need is a two horse trailer that weighs 800#s. Don't think it's going to happen.

Hi all,
Rather than get my horses rollerskates so they can be hauled behind my Explorer, I am starting to look for a Ford Expedition, which can tow 7000 pounds. Should be fine with a 2 horse Titan Avalance (about 3600 pounds) and 2 horses (about 2600 pounds.)
We do little hauling but if I have a horse emergency, just need transport.
Thank you for your advice. It was very helpful. Karen

Hi Gard,
Thanks for pointing to the Blue Ribbon Colt. They say it is a 2 horse straight load convertable to a slant load. Two questions:
1.) Do you know if it loads 2 horses when set up as a slant?
2.) If so, would I need to have another divider built to stand between the 2 horses because it appears there is only 1 divider and that it pictured as used up front to create the slant?
Thanks again, Karen

Yes, one horse is inthe forward part of the trailer, the divider is between the horses, and the second horse is in the rear.

You only need the one divider for two horse straight loads or two horse slant loads.
This trailer competes very favourably with the Benderup series. More space, standard electric brakes, full aluminum construction, can be customized with almost any option currently available on the rest of their models. It is also less expensive than the larger Benderups and offers full headroom with a full sized walk through door.

There are several problems with pulling with a mid size suv....power, stability and wheelbase. If you want to continue pulling with a mid size or compact for that matter suv, try to find a Brenderup trailer. Personally I love the crew cab pickups, all the usefulness of the big suv but fewer intial dollars and a better towing vehicle. Now that I have been converted to pulling a gooseneck, don't think I would want to go back to the conventional hitch. JMHO
