does anyone know if there is an aluminum shortage?  I put a deposit down on a new  Silverstar trailer mid Oct. and it's been a total fiasco ever since.  now apparently the company is shut down waiting on a new supplier.

Sound to me like........Someone that builds trailers don't have any credit or money to buy any aluminum. Just my guess. I have a friend that's ordered an Elite that running behind schedule, but they say it's because they were without power for 10 days due to the "ice storm". Ain't been any ice storm in Ridgeland S.C., I don't think. You are getting a "RUNAROUND"!!! Again, just my guess.

I guess I'm confused.  Elite Trailers are made in Oklahoma City.  They have had a couple of ice storms in Oklahoma recently.

Silverstar is located in Ridgeland, S.C., not Elite. No ice storm should have affected Silverstar in Ridgeland.

No such aluminum shortage - a friend of mine also ordered a Silver Star in Oct and put $27K down with the dealer. Trailer w/LQ was supposed to be finished 2 weeks ago and the shell is not even complete. The dealer is refusing to refund her money claiming that Silver Star has new investors (word on the street is the the alleged investors have also now backed out).

I told her to contact her attorney & the OH Attorney General. The dealer has failed to meet his obligation. He needs to give her money back and let her move on.

I didn't say Elite trailers were built in S.C. I said the Elite (my friend ordered) was running late because of the ice storm, in Oklahoma. Don't know why acy can't get her Silverstar, BUT, It's not because of an ice storm, in Oklahoma, nor do I believe it's because of an aluminum shortage, in S.C.. I believe its because someone's shooting her through the grease, be it the manufacturer, in S.C. or her dealer, in Ga.   I was told by one of their dealers, in S.C. this past monday, that the "employees" now own stock in Silverstar Trailers, in S.C.   So I guess the employees have invested moneys to help keep them (silver Star) going. Don't know, just what I'v been told. Silver Star is in South Carolina and Elite is in Oklahoma.....Like it's always been.

thanks everyone for your comments and info.

I spoke to the dealer again today and he admitted Silverstar is shut down- didn't say why exactly- for 2-4 weeks.  I  found this out yest. when I called the factory.   From what everyone says the company isn't very stable right now.   It's too bad.. they're nice trailers and up until all this crap happened I"ve always had good luck w/ the company.

anyway, the dealer gave me several choices.  one of which was a new Blue Ribbon trailer similar to the 4 horse I'd orignially ordered.  said I could use it for 2 weeks and if I don't like it he'd refund my $ and would give me that promise in writing.    never having seen that brand I"m not sure if I should take him up on his offer.. but on the other hand wouldn't have anything to loose, right?    (do any of you have opinions on Blue Ribbon trailers?)

the other choice is to get the 3 horse w/ hay rack he has on the lot. it's a nice looking trailer and at least w/ Silverstar I  know what I've got.  the 3 horse has a 6x9 DR which will be fun to fix up.. and the hay rack has lots of possibilities too.  think I"ll probably just go with that as soon as he can get all the extras on it just to be done with all the hassle.   my husband and coworkers are getting sick of hearing this saga!

Wow.  So sorry to hear about your headache!
Hate to hear it about Silver Star too.  I LOVE mine and they have ALWAYS been very nice and knowledgeable.

Let us know how it turns out.

oops sorry.. meant to send that privately.  well now my whole story is out in the open.

I really DIDN'T mean to send this to the general population it's early and automatically hit submit instead of sending to the private email box.

I'm mad at the dealer and  at Silverstar...mainly for the lack of communication.    I feel bad for the company and the dealership...  but if I'd been told  the truth all along about the whole situation perhaps I wouldn't have been so angry.

Now I'm probably in trouble for pubically bashing a business  on this website and I apoligize and will shut up about this whole deal.

Sounds like the dealer really wants to make it right.

I've been using a 4 horse Blue Ribbon stock combo that a friend owns to run around. It pulls like a dream, even loaded with 3-4 horses. Sometimes I'm surprised when I look in the mirror & see the trailer back there!

I've seen some of the horse trailers (in addition to the stock combo I've been using) and they look pretty slick. Don't have any bad to say about these trailers, other than I'm a fan. Heck, if the dealer is going to let you try it out, what do you have to lose?

BLUE RIBBON HAS ONLY BEEN BUILDING STOCK TRAILERS FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND AS FAR AS I KNOW JUST STARTED DOING HORSE TRAILERS WITHIN THE LAST MONTH OR SO. SO I DONT THINK YOU'LL SEE TO MANY OUT THERE YET.THE 2 TRAILERS I SAW WHERE AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY LOOKED OK.NOT THE QUALITY OF THE ELITE,4 STAR MORE LIKE A EXISS.

this is a P.S. to what I wrote before.  this dealer is really trying to be fair...  and yes I did say some bad things about him and Silverstar buts luckily was able to erase that whole submission before many people on this site saw it.

Yesterday aft. he called and offered me a partial sponsorship from his dealership and Lakota trailers on one of their new LQ trailers.  I was shocked!   very nice offer from both of them.     If I got the trailer it would be a realy good deal-more than 1/3 off the listed price.     talked it over w/ my husband and decided don't really need that much trailer  to haul around on a daily basis...  if we got it would need a generator, new truck, etc etc.   as he put it the "ultimate downward spiral"  much as I'd like a new truck don't want to be paying for one the next 5 years.

So... thats the story as of now.   I"ll probably end up getting the Silverstar he has on the lot and fixing up the DR.   Suggested he offer the sponsorship to my dressage instructor who is looking for a LQ trailer anyway.  it would work out well that way he could sell 2 at the same time.

thanks everyone for your emails.   this is a fun website and I'd hate to be banned for saying things  I should have kept private...
